Heres to EARTH Day, EVERY Day!I realize that the calendar date of Earth Day 2009, on April 22nd is actually past, however, the point of this News Article, Tribute to Earth, and hopefully the point of Earth Day itself, is to remind us all that it is not really just a one day event. Rather, Earth Day is truly every single day, as it should and needs to be, to ensure the quality of life our community home deserves. Our shared home gives and has given us so much beyond our collective comprehension and realization, over eons, and to the point of depletion and near-depletion in many cases.
If there is one thing all humans have in common, it is certainly our home of Planet Earth. Just like we have chores to do in our own family homes, to keep it running, to keep it clean, to keep it free of danger, it is the same of humankind that we all do the same in our one great home of Earth. And again, when something is broken in our houses, we do our best to back-track, assess the situation, and try to fix it. It is the same for the areas of Earth that are sick and in desperate need of help, such as polluted air and water, for a couple major examples.
We are all interconnected, as a colourfully woven tapestry of a beautifully crocheted blanket. If one piece of yarn in the blanket is pulled up in a snag it is felt throughout the whole. If one corner is dirty, the whole thing is tainted. So if Earth is sick at all, such as in pollution in air and water, its people can be sick, even if we dont know it. But more and more we realize these issues are largely reasons and triggers for illnesses like allergies, asthma, and migraines.
I think it begins with a respect, an appreciation, and then a growing love for Earth. We would try not to leave garbage on the floors of our own housing units, because its not only disrespectful, or unappreciative, but its very unhealthy, and therefore the same is for Earth. So we put garbage in the right place, and recycle what can be used again. We can even plant flowers, plant a tree, teach young children, and be mindful of and support the bigger issues in favour of saving our home, Planet Earth.
To me, anything in Nature would symbolize Earth Day, Every Day, because Nature IS Earth.
I chose to feature Trees, then Birds, then Trees again, to show that birds need trees as well as everyone and everything else. Trees are a MOST precious commodity, becoming too scarce in some parts of the world, and truly we cannot have enough trees. After all, they do help clean our air, for one thing, plus they give the much needed shade so many people and animals need, and are the homes for so many insects and animals. Some also grow much of our food. The list is endless... I think trees are a prime symbol of Earth Day.
May we all come together to clean house of our one and only home, Earth.
