This new article is dedicated to you, people from USA, Great Britain, Australia, Germany... for all of you, who live in democratic countries. It is a story about my home-country, the Czech republic and its fight for freedom and democracy. And I think it can help you to gain some very important and interesting information!
Exactly twenty years ago, the famous Velvet revolution started in the Czech republic and it finally brought freedom and democracy to the country. During the communist rule, there were political murders, violence and other terrible crimes against the humanity. Read the story about 40 years of totalitarian regime and the final fight for freedom!
As of October 28th, the GLBT community of the United States of America is now protected under the hate crimes laws. It took them almost 6 years after Canada got their laws changed, but they finally did!
It's that time of year when deviants carve pumpkins, watch horror flicks, and break out their spookiest costumes for themselves, their OCs, and their favorite fictional characters. Enjoy some of dA's more underappreciated Halloween art!
Weve all heard about it by now; the H1N1 virus, or originally called Swine Flu and though there are plenty of theories where it came from or how much of a problem it may be, I have done a bit of research over the last few months and have come up with a small bite of information that people can read should they become concerned, or just want to know a bit more before they accuse someone of having the virus, or if you yourself think you may

The Political Master Beast will retreat from a wing clipping Lord God. This global political shift will determine the future for humanity as a whole and the decree of death to the eagle signifies a swell of unsatisfaction with the political dominance of the winged one.
However many changes deviantART goes through, pageview remain a constant. Though for some reason there seems to be a palpable animosity towards the idea of pageviews. Many feel pageviews make them a better artist, many look upon them as useless numbers, why is this? Upon talks with many artists that fall into the "popular" category of artists, they predominantly share this opinion; pageviews arent important. Alternately, talking to many artists in the "rarely seen" category, they get excited by the smallest increase in pageviews per day. From personal experience and conversations with others, a rarely seen artist often feels some sort anguish when art they feel doesnt "deserve" it makes front page. It can hurt an artist's confidence to see what is "popular" on deviantART. One cant help but think that the "populars" have become somewhat desnsitized to pageviews and watchers alike after gaining so many. However, one should no fall into either of these mindsets. It is from personal experience that I draw this ideal; deviantART is a game. It is not a real place for good art or aspiring young artists to get better, its is myspace for artists. This is not to say that deviantART is a bad thing, quite the contrary. DeviantART helps many artists get in touch with one another, where like minds can share their personal expressions. In the argument over pageviews, both sides fall short of being right. If deviantART is a game, than pageviews are its currency or experience points. Watchers become level ups, Daily Deviations become class-ups, and so forth. One should not disregard pageviews as not important, because they are; evey pageview is one time that a person wished to see your self expression. However, one should not think that having more pageviews makes you any better than anyone else, they are numbers, not skill points. It becomes sad when an artist loses touch with their community. Dont forget the people that come by your page to see you, oppositely, dont use pageviews as a reason to post naruto fanart. This is a place for artists to have fun, get your pageviews and watchers, and have fun doing it.
I always find that artists with a super high number of pageviews ignore the "poorer" artists...simply because they barely have any pageviews. I have also noticed that high pageviews creates an ego, and some artists have become rude and arrogant about the fact. I asked a "popular" artist once a question and they NEVER replied back. I'm almost certain that it is because I have a low number of pageviews. If they were "busy", they would have found time to at least answer my question. Though I doubt it.

"I shall create a machine that can travel through time! I shall call it...a time machine."
Nicely stated.. I couldn't of explained it better myself. I myself am here to view the beautiful works that many post and to interact when/if possible. To me..this is an art heaven where we can mingle and feed on each others ideas and creativity.
It is nice to have page views, thus showing that others are interested in your work. But one must always strive to better themselves in their own art, trying to make it better than the last. For a dull creative mind makes for a dull world indeed.

"You will become as great as your dominant aspiration. If you cherish a vision, a lofty ideal in your heart, you will realize it." by James Allen
This is interesting as I've just had a sudden influx in my own page views. Going from someone who receives 40-80 page vew per day to a staggering 300 something today alone. (staggering at my standards, at any rate.)
However, no one is inputting on my art or idea's so I believe this is just traffic passing along. (Possibly why a blinked a little bit at the rise, but did nothing more.)
I've watched a heck of allot of artist who start out small and work their way up. Many can't reply back to each and every person who comments which I can see as reasonable. (Not everyone is a hermit on the internet...many people have lives and jobs.)
To others, having a high page view means being apart of the DA community which comes with it's own trials and retributions. Not everyone is going to like your art work or your style. So they ahve to deal with allot of criticism. (constructive feedback is great, I love it...but some people can't deal with that...)

Very, very true. I really care most for the friends on DA that enjoy chatting with all the time, and pretty art. I love seeing pretty art. XD;;
The number I tend to pay more attention to is the 'art views' and 'comments'. Though the latter is kinda stupid to look at since I have long ass convos with people all the time. xD
Mm, good points you've made here. "Popular" does have a very negative connotation.
To me, pageviews are just a statistic. I admit that I do get excited when I see that my numbers have gone up--which new artist doesn't? But I'd much rather have a good, friendly community and people who look at my art and say, "hey, I love the way you drew her eyes, so I'd suggest that you draw her eyebrows at a different angle to portray a different expression."
Right now, I'm just fine with the things they are. Pageviews have very awesome uses (Kiriban, anyone?) as well as inconveniences.
All in all, the problem is not the existence of pageviews; it is the obsession that comes with it. Eh, who knows; I might be wrong. But it's always nice to know that people are looking.

Considering that deviants have the option of viewing new or popular art on the front page, I think "rarely seen" art should be added to that short list of options as well; if rarely seen art is brought to people's attention the moment they log on, perhaps it can be assessed more accurately, and the artists can receive the critique that they desire. Sound reasonable?

Some people are like Slinkies; not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
such people include spammers, flamers, and art thieves.
and you forget that when some artists do get a ton of page-views and become "elite" they become jerks and can't bring themselves to consider themselves like everyone else. And they forget what it is like just to have fun and be part of a community. Just sitting on their little mountain in the land of DA laughing at the rest of the world.
sorry if I seem hateful.
I've been here 5 years and barely have 27,000 views. I don't care about them. I've made alot of friends and that's all that matters to me.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
