Welcome to the Very First Edition of =Thumbshares very own Critique Features!
When the Critique function came out we thought it would be a wonderful idea if it could be used to enhance Thumbshare in some way, and we came up with this! A feature of deviations hand picked by various mods and critiqued by them. That way not only do you get the benefit of showing your thumbs in #Thumbsshare as per normal but if youre lucky you could get a feature AND some critique to go with it!

TalescaperVery nice piece of work and very well seen. You did especially well combining depth of field with the way the light is playing with the textures. The composition might look a bit random, but it's in no way unpleasant. I think the biggest problem is that on the focal plane there are three separate objects that can be seen as primary in the composition, making the eye-movement around the image somewhat chaotic. Remember to lead the eye around your work, preferably using different lines of focus, which can work especially well in this kind of setting. Once you get the exposure just right, like here, play around with a few more angles and framings for a longer enjoyment of your subject (which is wonderful and well found) and for more pictures to choose from.
Keep up the good work

Butterfly by *TerryBizarro Critique by =
mirrorTEA Im always intrigued by images where you can find another object hidden in them. And you've really done a great work with blending the two objects together, the face and the butterfly. It doesnt look pasted on, or as if it's a mask, it really look as if the butterfly is part of her.
She makes me think of something etheral, magical. Someone who would be a great holder of knowledge in a fairytale.
All of your work dazzles me with colors, and I wish I could be as bold as you when I color my paintings. The black lines and shadowing really makes the colors pop a whole lot as well.
The whole image looks thought-through and improvised at the same time, again something I like. Like it went through an organic process being made. The opposite of painting-by-numbers to draw a rough comparison.
She's incredible, and I wish she was depicted in full body with surroundings, because I think she would be even more so. But as I ponder this, even as youve only made a portrait, I can let my mind fantasise on its own what the surroundings might be, and how she's sitting, or standing. So its not such a great loss.
Wonderful work

UseR2006Excellent piece! caught it while looking around thumbsshare, anyways. The colours and simpleness to me are what really stand out, and i actually like the fact you didn't do it as a hdr (from what i can tell) even if it would have looked awesome as one.
My main issue is there seems to be a bit of grain, especially in the shadows it could possibly be a ISO setting issue? cant tell without the exif data though. I would love to see maybe a bit more contrast especially in the shadows as it might give a more dark and dirty feel?

yanni-must-die I was immediately drawn to this photo. The contrast of the curves and straight lines is very appealing to my eye. The D O F is ok, and the slight vignette is also nice. I also like the contrast between the hard lines and the delicate.
I do wish, however that the flag (I think it's a flag) at the top wasn't cut off, for me also a bit distracting. Since it was a still object, I would perhaps lower the iso and raise the f/ as high as possible to improve the D O F overall. I think that would encourage the eye to be drawn over the entire image, allowing it to be fully appreciated.
Shoe-ology. by =GodessOfArt Critique by =
UseR2006I like the idea behind this photo however there are a few things i would like to mention if you ever decide to reshoot

Firstly it seems you may have run it through the sharpen tool alot as there seems to be some kind of i dont know how to call it other then "artifecting" especially around the shoes and on the green background, it's like there is some kind of fuzzyness over it.
Secondly i think this would have been much better shot landscape that way rather then the legs and feet bieng smack bang in the middle of the image i think a larger piece of negative space would have enabled the viewer to focus in on the legs and stockings alot more.
If you have used a filter in ps to give a slight green tinge i would err against that as to me it just ruins the contrast between the stockings and the green background.
Other than these things i think the photo overall is fun and shows the talent that you surely have
If you want to be featured in next fortnights edition just head over to #thumbsshare and thumb away! You dont have to be a member of the club though you do need to have the critique feature in order for us to critique it!
Hope to see you all soon!
Happy Thumbsharing!
