• Those that like to use free avatars made by others, and
• Artists that create free avatars for deviants to use at deviantART

Deviants are now able to use the =FreeAvatarProject to connect these two types of deviants together!

What is the =FreeAvatarProject?

The =FreeAvatarProject is a relatively new group at dA where members can send the free (general use) avatars from their galleries. The project adds these free avvies to various collections for deviants to find - all in one convenient place!

No more sifting through the thousands of icons in the deviantART Avatar Gallery, hoping to discover the avatars that you can use!

Do You Want a Free Avatar?

Browse through the project's collections to find some great general use avatars:

• Free Avatars > Free Animated Avatars
• Free Avatars > Free Static (Non-Animated) Avatars

Please always read and adhere to each avatar artist's terms of use before taking anything that isn't yours. All of these free avatars are meant for use at deviantART with the standard requirements: 50x50 and under 15 kb.

The project doesn't take requests. But it has a growing selection of talented Free Avatar Creators that you can contact with your requests.

You're Invited!

Returning to the theme at the beginning of this article, there are 2 kinds of deviants that may want to participate in the project:

• Free Avatar Creators: If you offer a selection of free general use avatars in your gallery, the project could use your help!
• Free Avatar Appreciators: It's not just for avatar creators! You can participate too if you'd like to help spread the word and support this project!

Please read the project's FAQ to find out how you can contribute. It's not a big commitment. You can donate your free avatars, avatar bases, and avatar tutorials as often as you like from your own gallery. In return, you get some extra +favs in your gallery and a chance to have your free avatars featured in the project's news articles and journal entries. More importantly, you get to see your avatars perhaps used a bit more, and maybe you'll even make some new friends in the process!
