Welcome to this week’s volume of so we heard you liek emotes. This is the 30th volume in a weekly series aimed towards promoting emote and emoticonists from the dA community. It features emotes posted within the past week from both well known and new emoticonists, as well as featuring some other great emote projects and contests.

Featured Emoticons:

On George Lucas Day, it only seems right that I feature Saber Fight by =BurgerBunny. The smooth animation, great shading and special saber effects all combine to make one brilliant emote to sit and watch.

2.
Although i don’t know much about Assasin’s creed, this emote by *Glorfindelor really appeals to me. The brilliant background and pixel work make this emote very eye catching and the animation flows brilliantly throughout. No detail has really been spared and it’s a fine example of emoticon fan art

3.
:cardgame: by =MenInASuitcase is another of the excellent emotes submitted this week. The great idea, faultless animation and brilliant expressions join together to make another outstanding emoticon that gains this week’s 3rd feature.

4.
There’ something very cute about what happened to you? By ~Rekizd. The squished emote has been well pixelled and animation is perfectly animated. The eyes and shading have also been well created, making this another must see emote from this week.

5.
Sometimes some of the most amusing emote ideas come out of bordem. I certainly giggled when I first saw Stretched Out by ~Mr-Jaunty. The shading is been used exceptionally well to enhance the stretched look to the emoticon. By leaving the face on the emote is also adds to the overall image making this another outstanding emote from this week.

Tards

Now a days tards are a popular form of emoticon that pop up all over the place. I felt that as tards are spreading further and further around the site, it might be nice to do a small feature on them.

The original Tardmotes were created and submitted to deviantART by ~darkmoon3636 back in July 2006 as part of a Tardmote Emoticon Pack. They were designed as a set of emoticons for uncommon text created smilies such as >:3 and :0. One of the most widely known of these is which now holds 2 places on the emoticon legend.These became quite popular and ~darkmoon3636 later brought out a second pack in September of the same year.

From the original Tardmotes a new style of emoticons developed now known as Tards. These emotes are most recognisable by their single pixel ‘dot’ eyes and usually aren’t the smartest of characters. Although it’s a shame many have lost the purpose of the original tardmotes, some of the tard emoticons that pass through dA are rather amusing and great examples of how emoticons are a fast moving art form.

- *TheTardClub is a relatively new club for all tard creators and tard lovers. Although it’s only a month old, its already made its place within the community. If your interested in tards, its definitely worth checking out

- The tard wallpaper project hosted by =Kermodog is a must see for anyone interested in making a simple set of tards

Projekt blob



Projeckt blob hosted by =b0r3d13 is a unique twist on an emoticon project. To enter you must create an object out of emotes for it to be added to the canvas. The project already has a good number of entries, but it would be great to see plenty more added

Gus’ Garden



Gus’ garden hosted by ~Mr-Jaunty (aka =the-unnamed21) is the second emoticon project launched this week. The theme is a garden and there’s still plenty of space for new entries. To enter simply make a garden themed emote and send him a link/note with the entry for it to be added.

- During this week, the next installment of So I herd u liek interviews?? was posted. This volume featured the amazing =Droneguard and if you missed it, you can catch a copy here.

- I am currently doing some work on a one off emote related news article. It’s in the final stages and should be posted in the next couple of days

- Thank you to all that responded to my shout out for DD suggestions. I’ve managed to stock up on a few that should be coming through during this month. However please keep this support up. I hope to leave some DDs to be awarded while I’m off dA in July, but for this I will need a supply in hand before I leave.

- The official ‘Give us a YAY’ contest ends on Saturday. If you were considering entering make sure to submit your entries for some great prizes that are up for grabs. Please also help spread the word about it as we’d like to see as many people as possible enter. More info can be located here
