For those of you who know and for those of you who don't, I'm a diabetic. This July, it will be five years since I was first "diagnosed." After I received my heart transplant, the medication that I was put on not only made me gain sixty pounds within a week, but it also made me become a diabetic. If I had to pick, I'd most likely be classified as
Type 2.I have to have insulin shots to help control my blood sugar levels. I take at least four a day; all of which are taken in my stomach. It's become routine for me, but at first it was really hard to get used to.
The sad thing is the fact that a person
HAS to get used to it. However, there are hundreds to even thousands of doctors working everyday to try and find a cure.
Just a short while ago, I was watching television with my mother and a commercial came on about diabetes. It caught my attention instantly. I watched it intently and was completely moved by the time the last note of music crossfaded into the next commercial.
It was called "Diabetes Handprint""JOIN THE GLOBAL DIABETES HANDPRINT
At OneTouch®, we believe that when we all speak together, our voice will be heard.
Thats why, inspired by The Word in Your Hand Project found on Tudiabetes.com®,
we created the Global Diabetes Handprint.
By writing a word on your hand expressing your feelings about diabetes, and sharing
the story behind it, youll become part of a global community that puts a human face
on diabetes for all the world to see.
For our part, well donate $5 to one of two diabetes charities (Diabetes Education and
Camping Association or Taking Control of Your Diabetes) for every hand that comes
our way. The choice is yoursAll that I am asking of you, as a DeviantArt member, is simply do as it asks. Write a word and submit it to the website that is provided above.
Can you imagine the difference that you alone can make, let alone a whole community as grand as this one? Five dollars for every hand submitted. Even if only twenty people do this, that is $100 that they didn't have!
Also, if you would like, you can even post your handprint photograph here on DeviantArt and send me the link via a Note and I'll add all of them into a feature (either in a news article or on my journal).
Please, pass this on. Bring awareness into the lives of people throughout DeviantArt. It is the least we can do to help these people live a happier life....
Thank you so very much~

I know it is difficult to be a teen, ( belief me I tried ) , the more so, when you suddenly have to adjust to a diagnosis of Diabethis and have to deal with
trying to maintain a normal youn persons life
coping with your parents and caretakers worries
coping with your own worries
coping with people who are not always well equipped to tell you important things in a right way
thoughts about your own life - having children - fears and worries - just to mention a few......
It´s annoying, depressing, and what not, and understandably sometimes you would like to forget about it all and just do what you like to, what ever the costs...
However - for your own sake - I would advise all young diabethics to inform yourself about the importance of compliance in the prevention of diabethis related problems.
Information that informs you about why it is difficult to comply, how to avoid and cope with unnecessary concerns or how to cope with your families maybe not very smart way of relating to you in respect to your problems...
Belief me it´s worth informing yourself, and get knowledge about how you can inform important others about how to make the best of all this.
Hope I could contribute a little with raising awareness.

Over the last two years it's been amazing seeing how many deiants have come together to talk about this. I've been a type one for 3 years now, and its been anything but easy - i think that it take more energyworking on making it look like no big deal than anything else.
great job on this

"...Did you find Mavra?" I asked.
"...Not yet."
"What?" I demanded.
"I've narrowed it down," Bob said.
"How narrow?"
"Uh," the skull said. "It isn't in any of the strip clubs."
