*STORY:
The manga , Katana of Gion is a story about the love between a young heiress of a very important family, the Saionji and a geisha. The young heiress is Akirako. She carries a cursed katana. The heiress of this family live under an unique protectorate wich allows them to do that they want as if they were a god. The heiress are directly under the shogun orders, because of the curse of the katana. The first heiress offered a katana, used by the wive of the shogun to commit suicide. So, the first shogun placed a curse on the katana: the protectorate will go on under the shogunate era, in order to see if the heiress of the family could carry this katana without knowing the madness and the death. Akirako is the third heiress of the family. She is 15 years old and soon , she will receive the katana. She lives with 5 geishas, wich is strictly forbidden in the society but the protectorate allows her to do it. The origins of the protectorate takes place under Oda Nobunaga. He didn't want to loose the supply of the Saionji when the heir was an heiress, so it will take this decision, to protect the ladies of the family.

The object is to accurately draw the characters from my story, Katana of Gion.

Please respect the both the personality and costumes of the characters. Entries will be judged on accuracy.

You may submit up to 2 entries for this contest.

If you intend to draw more than one character, please respect the relationship between those characters.

If you would like to include a background, keep in mind the era this story is written in, which is the year XVII°, in the country of Japan.

1st place - 1 year subscription and $30 cash
2nd place - 9 mo. subscription and $20 cash
3rd place - 3 mo. subscription and $10 cash

THE ENTRY

The contest will be judged based on the following categories:

Honoring the selected theme: Judges will award up to 5 points for theme

Accurate portrayal of characters: Judges will award up to 7 points for accuracy

I won't accept an entry with my characters drawn as animals! Sorry about it.

Composition: Judges will award up to 3 points for composition of each piece


*Bonus: There will be an additional 5 points available that will be awarded for extra effort, such as:

Drawing more than one character.

Providing a detailed background/character portrayal.

The time and effort put into the creation of your submission.


Character Information

*Description of the characters (with the bond between them):

*Saionji Akirako : girl , 15 years old. Long black hair, evil black eyes. Noble house and protected by a very important contract by the shogun. She lives in XVII° century. She has long black hair, with an androgynous face. She has a the same hair than Kamiya Kaoru from Rurouni Kenshin, but the lock in front of her ear are with curls. She has a traditionnal Korean dresses, red and green.
She met Chinatsu when she was 10 years old, 5 years ago. Chinatsu was 22 years old. One month ago, Akirako assisted to the rape of a young maid of her household. She was here and the servant died in her arms. This rape and this murder makes her cold to the men. Chinatsu was a desperate geisha when she saw her for the first time and the portrait of the servant. Since this time, she delivered Chinatsu from her former owner and she lives with her.
Akirako is the saviour of Tsuyako. She comforts Toshie even if she's younger than her. She laughs with Kaori and she has deep respect for Kohaku. She often shares tea with her.
Akirako :

*Fujihana Chinatsu:Lover of Akirako. She is 27 years old. She is passionnate, sweet , but terribly anxious for Akirako. She has always a worried look in her green eyes. She has a slim red and moving mouth. She has traditionnal geïsha hair with golden ornaments. She wears a white kimono and purple obi. She fears that she could loose Akirako because of the katana, if Akirako can't control him.
She was a geisha-to-be since she was 9 years old. She was the tutor of Tsuyako. She ran away of her a geisha house in order to live with Akirako. She met her at the age of 22 years. She knows that this love is very unconventional. She fears that the society or the family of Akirako could separate them. Sakairi Kohaku was her former rival. She sees Toshie as a young portrait of herself. She laughs often with Kaori. She likes her easy-going personnality.

*Chinatsu stopped to be geisha. You can do her hair untied or doing a very few ornaments.

*Fuchida Tsuyako: Former apprentice of Chinatsu, living with Akirako and her. She is mysterious. She is 23 years old. She has brown hair in traditionnal geisha style with ribbon in her hair. She has calm brown eyes. She is a classical beauty. She wears a pale blue kimono and a salmon obi.
She admires Akirako. She was the witness of the first meet between Akirako and Chinatsu. She was 16 years old. She didn't run with Chinatsu because she wanted to stay a geisha, in order to surpass her mother, a former geisha wich lived in a misery. But she couldn't support this mood of life after living an horrible party (it's the commission done by ), so she ran away. She fought the woman of the geisha house, the same owner of Chinatsu, and she was terribly hurt on a face by her. She was found in the street by Akirako and Chinatsu wich came to deliver Toshie and her.
Tsuyako:
*Tsuyako isn't the lover of Toshie.^^

*Okada Toshie: She is 16 years old. She is fragile. She is Tsuyako apprentice. She has always a fragile look on her face. She has a deep fragile black eyes, and a young fresh face. Her hair is black with pink highlights, she has a simple ponytail at her neck with a salmonpink ribbon. She wears a salmon-pink kimono and a blue pale obi (the contrary of Tsuyako^^!).
Toshie is cared very deeply by all the ladies, especially Akirako, Kohaku and Tsuyako.


*Henmi Kaori: She is 18 years old. She is known for her good humour. She is teasing her friends. She is geïsha that lives with Akirako, Chinatsu, Tsuyako and Toshie. She has a young and teasing face, with auburn hair and purple eyes.She wears golden ornaments in her auburn hair with blonde highlights. She wears a white kimono with a yellow obi.
She always smirks. She lives with the lady because she knew Tsuyako and Toshie. She ran away of Gion because she was the witness of the murder of a geïsha by an important young noble. She knew where were Tsuyako and Toshie , so she joined them at the house of Akirako.


*Sakairi Kohaku:
She is 25 years old. She is a cold geisha that living with the other ladies. She has a cold classical face. She has blue eyes, but a cold look. She doesn't smile very often, but she cares for her friend, especially for Kaori. Even if Kaori is always teasing her, she very takes care of her. She wears black kimono with a pink obi. Her hair is black with blue highlight. They are in simple high chignon.
She ran away from her geisha life after she attempted to stab her client because he hurted her. Her client was a very important man. She was one of the best geisha of Gion and the great rival of Chinatsu.

*Saionji Ryuto: 15 years old. Cousin of Akirako. He hates, loves and feel desire for her. He is always tormented. His face is haunted. He is always lost in his mind. He has long black hair tied in his back as a braid and a bangs in front of his ears. He has blue highlights and an haunted black eyes. He wears a purple hakama. He acts like the real heir of his family. He will give the katana of Akirako during a ceremony.

* Saionji Kanna :
12 years old. Cousin of Akirako. She has short black hairs with bangs above her eyes and she has fresh face even if she doesn't smile very often. She has green highlights. She has yellow green eyes. She suffers a lot of the indifference felt for her by Akirako. Akirako is her secret model. She tries to act like a young noble woman in public. She is gracious . She wears a pale yellow kimono with a red-brown obi.
