I feel kinda bad I've never heard of him. Condolences anyway.

Eddings was next on my reading list.

Though regrettable, I can't say his death surprises me - he was 77 after all. Still, he led a very productive life, and his books are bound to do him honor.

Shine on, you crazy diamond.
:iconbeccalicious:
Have you ever heard of the Belgariad series? Or 'The Redemption of Althalus'? Eddings is big for fantasy fans.

The Diamond Throne was one of the first fantasy books I ever read and I've only just finished re-reading the Belgariad series. :(

:iconsquanpie:
I got given Domes of Fire by my school library just before I left school for college. (their copy was so old it had been taken off the catalogue, but they gave it to me when I asked for it).

Until then I'd never heard of him, but I quickly became a fan. His light-hearted approach to epic fantasy certainly has, and will continue to entertain many people around the world.

I'm no artist, I just draw.
:iconin-art-we-trust:
He wrote some seminal works and was an inspiration to many.

--
without me it's just aweso
:iconessay-array:
The article linked to is slightly inaccurate. He wrote The Belgariad, not The Elinium, after being inspired by Lord of the Rings. He was in a bookstore and noticed that one of Tolkien's books was its 78th printing and wondered "Is this old turkey still floating around?" and then noticed that it was its 78th printing.
And then he was motivated to go home and start work on an idea he'd had. (The Belgariad)

Heh, I wrote an essay about him last year. I love that man. He was (and forever will be) amazing.

Oh, hell.

I've poked fun at Eddings' unabashed adherence to formula fiction many times in the past, but what he did well, he did very well.

Simply put, I loved his stuff. I loved his characters, and the voices he gave them. His books are fun, memorable, and highly entertaining.

This is a great loss.
:iconiscariot-priest:
I'm impressively poorly read. :B
