For some, World War II was an epic event they have read about in a history book, a vivid visual montage in Saving Private Ryan, a surreal event in black & white footage on the History, or Military Channel, or a battle vicariously participated in while playing a video game.
As a graduate student in history, I have read many books and scholarly journal articles about the Invasion of Normandy/Operation Overlord. My personal connection to the day lies in my father's presence there, and the heroic death of my uncle, who died saving men after his ship was hit.
Below I offer you a different look at D-Day from deviants of various ages, using several artistic medium. Their understanding and interpretations vary, but each captures something very special and unique that contributes to keeping the memory alive of the brave young soldiers and sailors. I have tried to include a cross section of literature and art found on deviantart.
This is my first news article on deviantart. Please be gentle in your comments and respectful to the various artists.

D-Day should never be forgotten, nor the soldiers who have given their lives for our freedom.
