This week's creature feature is: Gnomes.

From Wikipedia [link] :

A gnome is a mythical creature characterized by its extremely small size and subterranean lifestyle.
When a group of Gnomes is present the collective term is a donsy of Gnomes. The term originates from the British word Donsie meaning tidy and neat. It is believed to refer to the well turned out appearance of the Gnomes, rather than the habitats they are often found in.
Paracelsus includes gnomes in his list of elementals, as earth elementals. He describes them as two spans high, and very taciturn. Sometimes they are seen as a type of fairy, though at other times are seen as a distinct species in their own right.
Today, Gnomes are traditionally thought of as being small, bearded and wearing pointed, colourful, conical hats. They live in natural areas close to the Earth and care for wildlife. They are more benevolent than other folkloric creatures such as goblins.

Some "facts" about Gnomes:

  • At first glance, Gnomes could easily be mistaken for dwarves. In actuality, they're much shorter, standing at about 1 to 2 feet tall (and usually plumper).

  • The most famous Gnomes are garden gnomes. So much so, they have been stolen, used in pranks, and believed to come alive (such as here: [link] )

  • Gnomes appear in many games, such as Dungeons and Dragons, EverQuest, Cadash, DragonFable and World of Warcraft.

  • Gnomes are Earth elementals, and are usually depicted as being very intelligent and good at fixing/building things.

  • Most people, however, probably only know of Gnomes due to the Travelocity commercials. :iconfacepalmplz:

Now, for the features! Works are featured from various categories, in no particular order:
