The intention behind this series of articles is to take a look at some of our more prolific abstract photographers and find out what drives them and inspires them. Over the coming weeks and months I will be cornering many artists and bearing their souls here for all to see.
Issue #2 introduces you to ~

The Interview
Where are you from?
"I´m living in Kassel, in the middle of Germany. Not a big town, but very well known for the famous documenta, one of the most important exhibitions of contemporary art, happens every five years. Next one in 2013."
Do you have any formal photographic training and how long have you been taking pictures?
"No formal training. But long time ago I have studied civil engineer. That might be responsible for the more static view I have and my weakness for geometrical patterns. I started taking pictures in the late fifties with an old box, a mothers gift. Since then I never stopped. And I have always looked at impressive photographs and photographers. So for example I still remember a lot of pictures, presented by the famous magazine Life in the late 70s. Nowadays the internet and in particular DA gives a lot of possibilities to find impressive pictures. But there are still very well made photo books too. A medium which will be more in focus in future IMHO."
Do you ever work with film and if so which medium is preferable? / Why not?
"I have taken pictures on film until the beginning of this century and beside that made some work in dark room. In meantime I´m very comfortable with digital imaging. The whole process is much more easy to handle. But I still love my Rolleiflex."
Can you tell me a little about what piqued your interest in abstract compositions?
"As I have said before, I love geometrical elements and patterns. In abstract photography I´m able to reduce reality to these elements and have the possibility to play with them."
Which other photographers have you been influenced by the most?
"Of course this has changed several times over the years. Among them are:
Ernst Haas - He made colour pictures with motion blur in the 50s!!
Edward Weston - I admire his capability to abstract.
Robert Häusser - Very impressive, sometimes nearly abstract b+ws.
W. Eugene Smith - Very strong pictures with a social note.
But in recent time I´m most influenced by photographers / painters on DA as

... and much more ... (have a look at my favorites)."
Can you share three of your favourite photographic websites / bookmarks?
"Sorry, I´m not so much around in the net. DA takes up a lot of time."
Do you have a website?
"Yes, but it is rather simple and I have been too lazy recently to maintain the site" [link]
Can you show three of the pieces from your gallery that you are most proud of and explain a little about what makes those pieces that bit more special?

"I´m rather satisfied here with reducing a staircase to these elements and you can still recognize the staircase (I hope ...).

I´m still wondering that I´ve seen this at location.

I think this symbolize best my attempts to visualize a kinetic landscape."
Can you show us three of your favourite pieces from the dA Abstract Gallery?
