June's Fan Artist of the Month

"Her work on dA featuring other fan artists, keeping artists informed in the Potter world of events and contests, and her art itself makes her a good choice. She is a tireless digital artist who has really worked to improve herself, and has illustrated other subjects aside from Snape and other Potter characters (Mulan, Narnia, Frida Kahlo) She also is a big help to anyone having a question about technical aspects of digital painting." - From a member of the dA community
The Fan Artist for June is someone that I've viewed, first hand, as being a very loving and giving person. =
lilyhbp has touched the lives of others with her selflessness, and she does her part to promote artwork and help out where she can. She is a dedicated member of the community, and she's dedicated to the progression and improvement in her artwork. I had the opportunity to ask her a few questions about her views on fan art, so read on!
1. How much is artwork a part of your life? How long do you spend thinking about it/working with it?
Artwork has always been part of my daily life, since a child. It helps me relax and get in touch with myself. I learn daily. Now, I am studying daily from from 3-6 hours a day in art school and at home. Somedays I can paint all day, depending on my mood. When I am working in my career (computer sciences) this really goes down to 2-4 hours a week. I have children and a husband, so they need time too! The research, reading etc takes time too !!!
2. How has artwork influenced the direction your life has taken?
Greatly. I studied computer sciences and used to work for big companies like AT&T, NCR and Bull France as a consultant and technical support. I loved my work, but it was very stressfull. I actually got very sick getting daily migraines and had to stop working due to this. And due to a spinal injury I almost could not even walk for a while...I still struggle with pain daily, but I think art HELPS ME a lot!
This love for art and life has taken me in another direction. I think Frida Kahlo`s example of strenght even when she suffered greatly has been a lesson of life for me.
I am very lucky to have the support from my friends, family and even some sponsours!!
I sometimes give computer sciences classes and my goal is giving digital art/tools classes (Corel Painter and Photoshop) in a computer school and if possible someday, traditional art classes. I guess it depends on the support I get from my family. But for now I am happy just learning and sharing my artworks in DA as a hobby!
I would love to become an illustrator too... do cover and chapter art!
Dreaming doesn`t cost. Does it?
3. What are your thoughts on Fan Art? What are your favorite fan art subjects to draw?
Fan art is a beautiful way to grow as an artist. I started drawing Star Wars and Divine Comedy illustrations very young!
Now, my main muse in a fictional character, so even if I can`t sell prints, it helps me create. Maybe I would not even be interested in creating anything if it wasn`t for my muse. So I am thankful I can do this.
4. Do you have any favorite Fan Art Daily Deviations here on deviantART?
I do. I simply love

DD

I think I am proud to say I suggested it too... It`s just breathtaking!!!
5. Just from the onset, I've seen how you interact with the community--what drives you to make it better? What is your favorite part about the dA community?
I think we share the love for art and in my case, fictional characters from amazing books like Harry Potter, Star Wars and even Disney. I love supporting new artists, featuring all kinds of work (not only fan art).
I love crediting DA art used outside (youtube). I believe that ALL artists should be credited for their hard hard work.
My fave part of the DA community is of course the fan artists and writers who support each other, who help each other. I think that an artist is also a human being who needs love, help and undestanding. So I try to give a little of everything!!!
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the tutorials. I think I would be nowhere without the help from fellow artists who share their knowlegde!!
6. If you could give advice to artists, fan or otherwise, what would it be?
Be constant in
whatever you do (love).
If you love art, music, medicine, dance or enginnering: study, read about it, learn, , practice daily, do different things, research, try styles, learn from the past, but look to the future too. Get inspiration from music, nature, books, leyends....
Support it by helping out others whenever you can.
Keep trying. Don`t give up!!! You are the architect of your own destiny. If you have passion for what you do, you will enjoy and love your work!
And don`t forget to be thankful!
"She constantly wants to improve herself and her art is evolving. She studies tutorials and artbooks and it's visible in her gallery. It's a good thing in my eyes - that you have people on DA who are not already professional artists from artschools but who really want to improve themselves.
As a deviant, she's very loyal and nice to everyone - she always help the others, featuring artists and fanarts in her journal, and suggesting tutorials and brushes..." - From a member of the dA community

Congratulations, =

If you must drink and draw, please do so responsibly.
