What is a 'starving artist'? A starving artist is an artist who sacrifices material well-being in order to focus on their artwork. They typically live on minimum expenses, either for a lack of business or because all their disposable income goes towards art projects. Some starving artists desire mainstream success but have difficulty due to the high barriers to entry in art such as visual arts, the film industry, and theatre. These artists frequently take temporary positions (such as waitering or other service industry jobs) while they focus their attention on breaking through in their preferred field. - taken from Wikipedia.orgArtist Support @ LJThis community was created to help artists from all walks of life. You are able to tell your story and ask for donations or offer your artistic services in exchange for money to help you survive. Artists, and fans of artists are more than welcome to join. I've been desperately trying to get commissioned for over a year with very little success thus far.
With the economy the way it is right now my mom is having a lot of trouble just keeping me and her in our house. I don't drive due to severe anxiety, so that has hindered my chances at getting a job except for locally, to which there are very few options.
I dearly want to help her and right now this is the only way I know I can.
I'm not a member of LJ and, to be perfectly honest, I'm tremendously hesitant to become one due to warnings I've gotten from both friends and family.
I'm almost 20 years old, I'd had lit. 2 "official" jobs in all that time, been un-schooled my whole life 'til now when I'm just starting to 'get my feet wet' with a community college. And sometimes I feel utterly powerless to support myself or to help my mom with out financial situation.
I'm trying to stay positive and keep sending out good thoughts, but it gets hard.
I-I'm not looking for hand-outs. I'm more than willing to provide a service for any donations I receive. I can't use any digital programs but I promise I put my heart into every drawing I make and I swear I'll do my very best to make whatever I'm commissioned to do the absolute best I can make it.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, determined citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
It honestly seemed like a good idea, but I considered making a group here on DA or actually making a forum instead.

I'm in desperate need of commissions. Why? Unfortunetly it's not just one thing- my mom was diagnosed with cancer recently so I'm sacrificing myself and my dreams of ever going back to school to hope that she wins. the cancer is highly aggressive and spreading fast. we caught it early ....but it's still spreading.
Additionally I am having medical issues myself. I have a bad injury in my left foot where the scar tissue from an accident has "grown" inwards and entrapped a nerve. It's very painful and prevents me from being able to work as much as I need to to help my mother. I've been told I need surgery on it. They have scheduled an MRI but I cannot afford it either!
I also run a "shelter" for homeless and abused cats. Within this last year we adopted two homeless females and brought them into our family since no one else would take them. Because of our medical issues we could not immediately afford to get them fixed. Lucky us- they have now had kittens. I cannot keep these kittens as it would bump the number of my cats up to 17.
We do what we can, for who we can, when we can. I've helped as many artists as I could throughout my life- even if it was a small donation of $5 that I was to splurge and spend one myself or the $20 I saved for my lunches for work. I will always be there to help. I want to always be there to help.
But for once.... can someone help me?
I'm super good at drawing people. I do painted shoe commissions and I have been known to sew things. I work with my brother to make wooden prop swords. .... or well I am sure we could make any prop. I work with clay too and have started trying to make earrings. If you want to help- I take commissions! I work for all my money. I don't consider this any different. If you are interested.... please contact me.
Thank you.
Thanks anyway
