TheCritiqueBox is a club devoted to
improving critique.
But it seems like this is impossible to do without a little self-awareness: how do
you write? What are your strengths and weaknesses, and how can you compensate for these when you're both writing for yourself and telling other people how they can improve their work?
Hence: THE REVIEW CONTEST.
Review thyself.Of course, a lot of us haven't written reviews since that absurd little book review with the "attention getter" in elementary school, so here are a couple of helpful resources:
What is a review?Examples of reviews from a generally well-established source.Rules
The piece you review must be at least two weeks older than the review.
(Make sure you have both submitted as deviations or scraps, and watch the dates, even if the piece you're posting is very old, because I have no way of knowing.) Personally, an ideal time range is between six months and a year--you can look at it objectively, but it's similar enough to your current writing style so that reviewing it will be helpful to you now.
You must submit the piece you are reviewing to ~
TheCritiqueBox for open critique--in a note with a link and something like 'Contest: submission piece' is fine.

The review must be posted as a deviation or scrap, with a link to the original piece in the Artists' Comments.

Note ~
TheCritiqueBox with a link to your review and 'Contest: review' in the subject of the note.
Prizes
At the moment, winner takes all. Feature in a news article, feature in ~
TheCritiqueBox's journal. Depending on the number of entries, first runner up may get a mention in the news article as well.
Donations--journal features, critiques, anything--are definitely appreciated. Check our journal for updates in this vein.
Note ~
TheCritiqueBox with anything related to this.
Contest ends at 11.01 p.m. August 15th GMT time.
Good luck, and happy writing!
