ProjectComment Anthro Features- October 2009

=MachinesBleedToo:iconMachinesBleedToo: reports, November 1
As a Staff member at *ProjectComment, it is my duty to seek out Deviations one week or older with 0-5 original comments. I am in charge of the Anthro category.

These choices are forwarded onto the admins and then featured in a news article to help give a wider audience to these under-appreciated artists by exposing them to a group of people willing to leave original comments.

An original comment is not something like: "cool", "I like it" or "nice."

You can help too. Drop a constructive, thought out comment on these artworks if you find the time. It would be greatly appreciated by both parties!

Within this article are my feature picks for this month.

The History & True Definition of the Furry Fandom

^Katmomma:iconKatmomma: reports, October 13
This article is the most all inclusive, accurate, and informational resource for every question you have about the Furry Fandom. It Provides a complete chronology of Anthropomorphic Characters & Concepts throughout history, And CLEARLY Defines what this "fandom" is all about.

Before you read this little blurb I'm writing and think to yourself "Why do I care? Furries are weird people" Reconsider your thinking. If you enjoyed Disney films and Old-skool cartoons to any degree, then you share an interest with millions of people world wide. You don't have to be obsessed. You don't have to be attracted to a Vixen built like a brick house. You don't have to draw talking animals.........

all you have to do is appreciate animals, objects, or natural phenomena that can relate to you, emotionally, behaviorally, and to some degree, physically.

Obviously there will be people who prefer not to be labeled. But please make sure you have read what the entire article presents before you take offense to this. Because really if you've truly read it, there is no reason to.

A very interesting read for anyone who has doubts or concerns. Highly educational and you'll get a history lesson too. ;) Check it out!

Much appreciation goes to the author of this Document. I did not write this, and the article does not reflect my opinion. But there is a lot of good useful info in there that will get you thinking.

Anthro Collab Contest STAGE3 : Winners!

^Katmomma:iconKatmomma: reports, July 2
CR Sponsored Anthro Collaboration Contest!

Aim of the Contest

Nursery Rymes and Fables
Use your strengths, teamwork, creativity and intuition to create a piece of art depicting a favorite Nursery Rhyme or Aesop’s Fables, and translate it into Anthro!

Judges and Winners

Judges: ^savagebinn , ^Katmomma , =Kizamaji , ^armaina , =Pixel-Spotlight , `hibbary `cooley , =Avalik , ^Platinus

Our Judges did a great job with writing comments on the entries and voting!

Our Winners!

I’ll start off with 3rd place! There was some excellent entries in the collab contest.

3rd Place

“They took a new twist to the story, and they certainly put a lot of effort; they even wrote a story for it. The Silkworm and the Spider, on the other hand, does have different species than usual, however, throughout the whole judging process I was not taking species into consideration as I don't think it makes the picture "conceptual" or "creative" in comparison, though still, insects are pretty hard to anthropomorphize so you have to give them bonus points for effort on that one.

Overall I think the effort and quality was about equal. Silkworm and the Spider had the best - out of all the submissions - collaboration effort. The Silkworm and the Spider was the only one in the contest to have every aspect of the art be contributed from both artists. They both did lineart (they each did a character), they both worked on the background and foreground, and they both coloured and shaded! It seems like genuine teamwork, to trust the other person to work with you instead of "do your own thing."

Third place has been awarded to the collaborative efforts of =thrivis and ~Jshei and their wonderful piece, Silkworm and Spider!

:trophy:For the Collab Team Third place winners:
3 month sub
devwear sticker pack

2nd Place

“A not-so-popular story that has been executed with the utmost quality. I love the use of texture that brings this piece back to antiquity.“

A very creative, and textural piece which displays quite a unique take on the take on the Aesop’s Fable. Because of the uniqueness of this piece, it has been awarded Second place!

Fox Trot is the collaborative efforts of *sarazita and ~giannipuri!

:trophy:For the Collab Team Second place winners:
6 month sub
devwear accessory pack

1st Place

“I love the amount of detail in the background of this image -- from the designs on the tiles beneath the leopard to the distant blossoms in the trees. The background is beautifully constructed and of course the characters are wonderfully detailed as well, right down the rings on the leopard's fingers. I also like the modern notes like the suitcase and coffee cup the fox is carrying.”

Very well deserving, The Fox and The Leopard was a highly detailed and creative.

And we happily present First place to =dawndelver and *BlazeTBW for their piece, The Fox and The Leopard!

:trophy:For the Winning Collab Team First Place winners:
1 year sub
devwear t-shirt
Emoticon Stress balls

Both partners get these exciting prizes! :w00t:

The remaining entries were very excellent!
I think everyone deserves a well round of applause for awesome collaborative efforts! You all really pushed to combine your talents into something very powerful.

What Are Friends For?
“I liked the detail, and the portrayal stuck pretty close to the original story I found it held a good amount of creativity. “

The Lion and the Mouse
“I loved the modern take on it!”

Hey Diddle Diddle
“I really like the character designs, especially the plate and the spoon, though.”

The Charlatan Frog is packed full of fun characters whose unique expressions had me smiling. The frog's outfit and facial expression definitely make him a winner, but don't overlook the other characters as well!

“The lines, anatomy, and facial expressions are unique, as is the colouring, which blends for a very great picture with both artists indeed.”

Mary Mary Quite Contrary
“I think this partnership did one of the better jobs on collaboration. Instead of the usual "I draw lineart you colour" which unless one of them has a unique way with anatomy it usually ends up not so collaborated, they both partook in the colouring part. One did the lineart, shaded, and texturizing, the other chose the colours and even added to the original lineart by adding some faeries. They did a great job on the collaborating though, and it ended up pretty fair.”

Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
“LOVELY concept, great creativity and even has some humor. Pretty good quality wise.”

Anthro Collab Contest Entry
“Adorable concept, and very recognizeable!”

Closing

:iconflowerdanceplz:Hope you enjoyed all the entries and Congrats to our winners! :iconflowerdanceplz:
