ProjectComment Anthro Features- October 2009

=MachinesBleedToo:iconMachinesBleedToo: reports, November 1
As a Staff member at *ProjectComment, it is my duty to seek out Deviations one week or older with 0-5 original comments. I am in charge of the Anthro category.

These choices are forwarded onto the admins and then featured in a news article to help give a wider audience to these under-appreciated artists by exposing them to a group of people willing to leave original comments.

An original comment is not something like: "cool", "I like it" or "nice."

You can help too. Drop a constructive, thought out comment on these artworks if you find the time. It would be greatly appreciated by both parties!

Within this article are my feature picks for this month.

The History & True Definition of the Furry Fandom

^Katmomma:iconKatmomma: reports, October 13
This article is the most all inclusive, accurate, and informational resource for every question you have about the Furry Fandom. It Provides a complete chronology of Anthropomorphic Characters & Concepts throughout history, And CLEARLY Defines what this "fandom" is all about.

Before you read this little blurb I'm writing and think to yourself "Why do I care? Furries are weird people" Reconsider your thinking. If you enjoyed Disney films and Old-skool cartoons to any degree, then you share an interest with millions of people world wide. You don't have to be obsessed. You don't have to be attracted to a Vixen built like a brick house. You don't have to draw talking animals.........

all you have to do is appreciate animals, objects, or natural phenomena that can relate to you, emotionally, behaviorally, and to some degree, physically.

Obviously there will be people who prefer not to be labeled. But please make sure you have read what the entire article presents before you take offense to this. Because really if you've truly read it, there is no reason to.

A very interesting read for anyone who has doubts or concerns. Highly educational and you'll get a history lesson too. ;) Check it out!

Much appreciation goes to the author of this Document. I did not write this, and the article does not reflect my opinion. But there is a lot of good useful info in there that will get you thinking.

[CR] Anthro Newsletter June 2009

:iconkatmomma::iconsavagebinn: Hello, Hello! ^Katmomma and ^savagebinn here with your Monthly report on the Anthro Community! Get ready because we have some new stuff in store for Anthro, and as always, some terrific features!
Last Month's Newsletter--> [link]

What is Community Relations?

I have received many questions regarding what ^savagebinn and I do, and I think it is important for all of us to be reminded what CR really is, and what our goals as a team are.

deviantART's Community Relations Team provides a unique collective effort that seeks to create and sustain collaborative relationships among deviants and to develop innovative opportunities within the global art industry. These relationships are meant to provide and encourage opportunities to foster creative genius. The CR Team acts as a window of information for the community on how to utilize deviantART in a way that will empower and enable themselves as respected and successful artists.
Our ultimate vision is a community of artists that come together unified and strengthened by sharing the belief that they hold the artistic power to create and shape their own success. In order to realize our vision, our mission must be to exceed the expectations of our community, whom we view as partners, and we will accomplish this by committing to our shared core values. Our core values are listed in FAQ #84: What are the Core Values of the Community Relations and Operations Departments? And Gallery Moderator’s responsibilities are listed here in FAQ #82: What are the guidelines for Volunteer Gallery Moderators?

:iconcommunityrelations:
A list of all Gallery Moderators and your best resource can be found in $Moonbeam13’s journal :D

Current Contests

:bulletorange: The Anthro Collaboration contest is complete, and the winners have been announced!

3rd Place

“They took a new twist to the story, and they certainly put a lot of effort; they even wrote a story for it. The Silkworm and the Spider, on the other hand, does have different species than usual, however, throughout the whole judging process I was not taking species into consideration as I don't think it makes the picture "conceptual" or "creative" in comparison, though still, insects are pretty hard to anthropomorphize so you have to give them bonus points for effort on that one.

Overall I think the effort and quality was about equal. Silkworm and the Spider had the best - out of all the submissions - collaboration effort. The Silkworm and the Spider was the only one in the contest to have every aspect of the art be contributed from both artists. They both did lineart (they each did a character), they both worked on the background and foreground, and they both coloured and shaded! It seems like genuine teamwork, to trust the other person to work with you instead of "do your own thing."

Third place has been awarded to the collaborative efforts of :dev: and :dev: and their wonderful piece, Silkworm and Spider!

:trophy:For the Collab Team Third place winners:
3 month sub
devwear sticker pack

2nd Place

“A not-so-popular story that has been executed with the utmost quality. I love the use of texture that brings this piece back to antiquity.“

A very creative, and textural piece which displays quite a unique take on the take on the Aesop’s Fable. Because of the uniqueness of this piece, it has been awarded Second place!

Fox Trot is the collaborative efforts of *sarazita and ~giannipuri!

:trophy:For the Collab Team Second place winners:
6 month sub
devwear accessory pack

1st Place

“I love the amount of detail in the background of this image -- from the designs on the tiles beneath the leopard to the distant blossoms in the trees. The background is beautifully constructed and of course the characters are wonderfully detailed as well, right down the rings on the leopard's fingers. I also like the modern notes like the suitcase and coffee cup the fox is carrying.”

Very well deserving, The Fox and The Leopard was a highly detailed and creative.

And we happily present First place to =dawndelver and *BlazeTBW for their piece, The Fox and The Leopard!

:trophy:For the Winning Collab Team First Place winners:
1 year sub
devwear t-shirt
Emoticon Stress balls

Both partners get these exciting prizes! :w00t:

Daily Deviations, and Suggested Feature

Everything you need to know about sending ^savagebinn or ^Katmomma a DD suggestion is right here in The Ultimate Anthro Daily Deviation Guide.
Please read this before sending suggestions, and be aware of our guidelines. The more aware you are, the more likely your suggestion will be featured as a Daily Deviation.
:iconfoshoplz: The biggest issue we still have is people sending us suggestions that are NOT Anthro. Please take the time to educate yourself about the boundaries and gray areas by reviewing the “What Is Anthro?” article listed in our DD Guidelines and here once again.

Suggestor’s Feature
Feature for some the wonderful suggestions we receive from the community  These suggestions are correctly placed in the Anthro Gallery. We have received so many, we picked out our finest from the bunch! Thanks so much for all of your support! Keep the suggestions coming!

Suggested by ~faerywitch
“This piece not only emanates the warm love between the two characters, but it's also masterfully done on a feather! The level of detail is incredible!”

Suggested by ~ERiss13
“now ive seen a lot of anthros on here, but you hardly see platypuses.
and this one i thought was real neat.”

Suggested by anonymous
“there was an atmosphere about this pic that was just so different from all the other things I had seen that day. To me seems as if anything could happen during her quiet surveillance of the screens.”

Suggested by ^ctJemm
“falling falling :)

Suggested by ~LiOneSS-178

Suggested by ~pokepanda
“This piece is so tender and endearing, every time I look at it, I feel at peace, especially when I look specifically at just the colors.”

Suggested by ~Shadowof-Mahogany
"=OwlGem's gallery is fantastic when it comes to anthros, but this one really stood out! Her simple message of, 'You wouldn't like it, would you?' really hits home about animal testing. The style is very unique and interesting, and I really think it deserves a feature!"

Suggested by *tdibz94

Suggested by *Kizziesama
"I've come across this piece many, many times, and it's still as amazing as the first time I viewed it. The colors in this are fantastic, and you can almost feel a sort of 'light' from just looking at it... maybe even hear a certain favorite song :D :devnekophoenix has so much to enjoy in her gallery. This is just one of many reason to visit her "

Suggested by =resafandrab
"Nynx is such an intriguing character, and this drawing really captures his essence. I really love the rich coloring, and wonderful perspective of this piece."

Suggested by ~cinda7
"The colors are wonderful. The details really give it a nice, realistic feel. Yet the subject is so cartoony and silly. It's a really nice pic to look at for the technique and textures, but it's also good for a giggle or two."

:star: Most Interesting Anthro(s) of the Month :star:
Featuring pieces we've found that are especially unique and interesting from the Anthro gallery.

- I really love the charm and interesting design! Reminds me so much of a classic cartoon!

- Fantastic expressions here, just look at that banana biting down on the poor orange! A charmingly original piece.

One of the greatest things you can do for yourself is to be unique as you can possibly be. Mimicking styles will not make you popular. Being different in your interpretations will make you stand out in the crowd.
