What if Meyer bash your OWN work?
« Thread Started on Jun 12, 2009, 3:24am »
Well, we've seen Meyer bashed Princess Bride, Wicked Lovely, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights and EVEN Romeo and Juliet. God can't this woman be anymore conceited?
Also she insults romance of Wesley and Buttercup because they can't live without each other. She also commented on Wicked Lovely saying the only good thing about it is the cover. She also said that Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy becuase they CAN live without each other and move on. She hates Wuthering Heights because the couple there put up with each other. And she EVEN bashed Romeo and Juliet. Saying they don't even know each other and that they are in love just because.....they're in love. Man this author is very full of herself. She thinks NOTHING can compare to Edward and Bella's "Wuv Stowwy." ALSO, DON'T FORGET she HATES fans and people who wrote fanfiction of Twilight. I mean COME ON woman. Should you be proud when someone makes a fanfic out of your work? I would be GRATEFUL and be THANKFUL that someone EVEN writes a Twilight fanfiction. I'm gonna be flattered if I were her. Is she trying to be like Anne Rice? We all know Anne Rice HATES fanfiction.
Quote:
"IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM ANNE ON "FAN FICTION"
Anne has posted the following message regarding fan fiction: "I do not allow fan fiction. The characters are copyrighted. It upsets me terribly to even think about fan fiction with my characters. I advise my readers to write your own original stories with your own characters. It is absolutely essential that you respect my wishes."
-Anne Rice

[link]To me, Meyer is trying to be like her. But that's just me.
Anyways, if she bashes my own work, I would either laugh at her or make her read her own work.

Smeyer thinks Twilight better than Princess Bride
« Thread Started on Jun 10, 2009, 1:29pm »
Look at this little gem I found:
"Tw Staff: Reading Twilight it came to me the story of Westley and Buttercup. Is Bella and Edward love, True Love like theirs?
Stephenie: Actually Bella and Edward love story is better than them. When I was in college I wrote a paper from a feminist perspective (its an easy way to write) on the princess bride so I am little biased. The problem I have with Westley and Buttercup is Buttercup is an idiot and it doesnt bother anyone, all that matters is that shes beautiful, that is her only value. At the end she redeems herself a bit, but the female characters are very weak in that story. Westley is brave and smart and fights, Buttercup is just beautiful, its her only thing: her brain means nothing, her personality means nothing to him, they have the kind of love where they cant leave without each other. Its not a great example to me. I couldnt find one who was a really good comparison to me, I mean, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr.Darcys its pretty good, except you should think that if either one of them dies the other one will carry on bravely, and Romeo and Juliet were kind of idiots, they didnt know each other very well. And Anna Of Green Gables and Gilbert Blythe (Anna dai capelli rossi), but they are much more like Jacob and Bella, theyre friend they get the nerves of each other a lot. I didnt find out yet a Bella and Edward love story that really satisfied me that way."
I have no words for this. Gone to buy a new desk, old one broken from, exessive head desk.

Here's a few /facepalm worthy quotes:
Quote:
It certainly wasn't belief in my fabulous talent that made me push forward; I think it was just that I loved my characters so much, and they were so real to me, that I wanted other people to know them, too.
Fabulous talent? Is that supposed to you, Stephenie?
Quote:
I will state, for the record, that my queries truly sucked, and I don't blame anyone who sent me a rejection (I did get seven or eight of those. I still have them all, too). The only rejection that really hurt was from a small agent who actually read the first chapter before she dropped the axe on me. The meanest rejection I got came after Little, Brown had picked me up for a three-book deal, so it didn't bother me at all. I'll admit that I considered sending back a copy of that rejection stapled to the write-up my deal got in Publisher's Weekly, but I took the higher road.
Quote:
And that's how, in the course of six months, Twilight was dreamed, written, and accepted for publication.
Isn't that just loverly.
Quote:
NO! I didn't want Edward to leave.
Quote:
WHAT IF... What if true love left you? Not some ordinary high school romance, not some random jock boyfriend, not anyone at all replaceable. True love. The real deal. Your other half, your true soul's match. What happens if he leaves?
The answer is different for everyone. Juliet had her version, Marianne Dashwood had hers, Isolde and Catherine Earnshaw and Scarlett O'Hara and Anne Shirley all had their ways of coping.
I had to answer the question for Bella. What does Bella Swan do when true love leaves her? Not just true love, but Edward Cullen! None of those other heroines lost an Edward (Romeo was a hothead, Willoughby was a scoundrel, Tristan had loyalty issues, Heathcliff was pure evil, Rhett had a mean streak and cheated with hookers, and sweet Gilbert was much more of a Jacob than an Edward). So what happens when True Love in the form of Edward Cullen leaves Bella?
*feels sickened*
I can't stomach reading on. All quotes from her site.I don't think I can face the interviews...*shudders*
"One of the great things about fantasy is that research rarely applies." - Stephenie Meyer on The Host specifically. >

"They're fictional, I can do whatever I want." - Stephenie Meyer on vampires. >

>

Moving on...
Quote:
You wouldn't believe the questions I get. People want to know every single detail. You know, I majored in English, not biology.
Hmm. Well, maybe a little something called "BASIC RESEARCH" WOULD HELP, YOU TWIT! [/capsrape]
Quote:
But I can't read other people's vampires. If it's too close [to my writing], I get upset; if it's too far away, I get upset. It just makes me very neurotic.
::headdesk of epic proportions::
Quote:
Oh no, you know what? I've developed this humongous love for 12-year-old girls! They have the best questions, and they're so into the stories. You really can't write for a better audience. I say to all other authors: If you're not writing for teenage girls, you're missing out on a lot of love.
Well of course, SMeyer. They're more impressionable and willing to become your minions.
Quote:
When I write the story, it's not like I'm thinking about what I'm doing.
Quote:
See, and I get that a lot. People--what's the message? What moral is there to the story? And there never is one with my books. You know, people find them, and that's fine, you know, reader interpretation is valid, but for me it's always just about the adventure. I want to go and have fun.
Both quotes are from an interview with Entertainment Weekly after Breaking Dawn came out. You can see it on YouTube here:

Murder!
« Thread Started on Mar 19, 2009, 12:29pm »
Okay, this happened on Sunday and I just managed to get online to tell you this.
There is a girl in my neighborhood that is seven years old. Cutest little girl ever! She's got eyes that are just so blue and really blond hair. adorable. Unfortunately, her mother loves the name Isabella so the girl's name is, you guessed it, Izabella. (Weird spelling, huh?)
Well, she and I have become close friends and we talk about different things like books and anime. (She calls me Sissy! <3) Well, if there's one thing that Iza really likes, it is her goldfish. They are her pride and joy.
However, on Sunday, she comes running to my house and starts pounding on the door. Panicked, I open up and hugged the distressed girl. She doesn't hug me back and instead starts wailing that her goldfish was dead.
Thinking that it died overnight, I try to comfort her. Instead, she drags me back to her house where the house is completely in shambles. Books thrown, glass broken, you name it. (Her mother was at work so her 17 year old brother was babysitting)
Iza's brother was currently being the protective older brother and yelling at his girlfriend (whom I liked until now) for being a stuck up bitch and for doing that to his sister. I try to calm everyone down and look down at the kitchen floor only to see a horrible scene.
The bitch threw Iza's goldfish bowl (the little glass oval looking bowl) across the kitchen and stomped on the little goldfish, killing it instantly in front of the poor girl.
The reason: Iza read Twilight (she's incredibly smart and loves reading.) and had just finished it. She had told her brother and his girlfriend that Twilight sucked donkey butt and Stephanie Meyer wasn't a good writer and didn't deserve to be getting an award for it. Her brother's girlfriend is a Twihard fan and got angry. She started throwing things and stomped on her goldfish.
I lost my temper and slammed my fist into the bitch's nose. Think I broke it. Well, it wasn't the best route, but it shut the bitch up and she ran for it.
Iza is still heartbroken and buried the fish in the backyard. Poor Iza.
**Edit:
I have recieved word from Iza that the bitch who stepped on the fish said that it was an accident. This is what Iza told me and this is from the mouth of a baby, "That is bullshit! She threw Mopsy and stepped on him!"
While it may have been an accident, the bitch had no right throw the goldfish. She would have killed it anyways.
And a "WTF!?!?!?" moment!!!!!!!!
S. Meyer beat Rowling for a book award...
« Thread Started on Apr 4, 2009, 2:24am »
What has this world come to?!
"Meyer won the WHSmith Childrens Book of the Year for Breaking Dawn, the latest installment in her best-selling series about the trials of a teenage girl who falls for the charms of a vampire. Hailed as the new J.K. Rowling, Meyer overcame competition from Rowlings own book, The Tales of Beedle the Bard."
Holy crap. Tales of Beedle the Bard was sooo good, even if it was short. This is injustice.

More evidence that Meyer is a bad writer
« Thread Started on Jan 31, 2009, 12:29am »
As if we needed any more. xD
SO, I was at the library picking up some holds, and I decided to browse through the writing/literary section, and I found some very very thick books to check out/hit Twilighters with.
The one I am reading right now is The Writer's Handbook, 2004 Edition. There's one particular article therein, entitled 'Top 5 Fiction Mistakes.' Let's see how many Meyer has made. =3
1. Bad Beginnings
In a nutshell, a story must start by grabbing the reader's attention, and continue to hold it by delivering what is advertised on the back of the book. A story must also not take too long to cut to the chase.
2. Wordiness
Excessive adjectives and adverbs, using big words where small ones will suffice, and too much detail.
3. Poor Plots
Same old, lame idea with no new twist to make it unique and grab reader's attention.
4. Underdeveloped Characters
Stories require drivers. And by drivers, I mean believable, three dimensional characters. The reader has to be able to care about them, they have to grow over the course of the story (or at least have SOME form of development), and they should avoid stereotypes.
5. No Point
The story must have a why behind things. A story must have a reason to be at it's center.
Also included in this wonderful little gem is a sidebar entitled 'Seven Deadly Sins.' Here it is in short:
1. Preachiness
2. Cliches
3. Outlandish names
4. Lack of knowledge
5. Autobiographical stories (this applies to query letters though, basically stating editors want to read about your work, not your entire life's story)
6. Cute Titles
7. Unprofessional cover letters
As far as I see it, she's guilty of at least the first 4 main points and 4 of the 7 deadly sins. Possibly more. I'm not the greatest expert on writing there is.

SMeyer V JKRowling
« Thread Started on Jan 3, 2009, 8:21pm »
Okay.
It's kind of a given that JKRowling is waaaay better than SMeyer.
Her Beedle book knocked Twilight off the No1 Spot.
Glory be to JK.
But SMeyer still seems to think that her characters are better than JK's characters.
So.
What do you think would happen if SMeyer and Jk were to meet?
Who would win in a verbal battle?
Who would win in a physical battle?
How would they act?
One thing: Does JK know what SMeyer said about Edward killing Harry in 0.16 seconds?
I wonder how JK would retaliate.....
Of course knocking someones book off the No1 is a pretty witty comeback.
she thinks she has talent?
« Thread Started on Apr 28, 2009, 12:49pm »
i red this on the mormon times webstite (long story, don't ask) nd it really made me wonder - does she actually think she is good t what she does? she really seems to think she has talent.
all the writers i know, myself included, don't think they are good at all. we are a notoriously self-critical race, and that's what leads to good writing - that drive to improve when you don't think you re good enough.
smeyer doesn't have that. her writing sucks nd in prt i think it's because she's smug and actually thinks she is good t what she does.
and i knwo that fans are quick to point out tht she sells well, but populairty doesn't equal quality, and her books hve been critically panned.
Quote:
Best-selling author Stephenie Meyer never wanted to be a writer. In fact, if she hadn't married and started a family, she would have gone to law school.
"That was what my goals were," the Brigham Young University graduate said in a phone interview from Phoenix. "I never considered writing at all because it's too scary. You let people see what you're thinking in kind of an unprotected form and that seems like a really big vulnerability to me. But apparently I'm supposed to be a writer, and if you have a talent that's been given to you, you're not always allowed to ignore it."
Stephenie Meyer Conceited?
« Thread Started on Apr 18, 2009, 10:13pm »
Okay, I would first of all like to introduce myself to everyone. I'm a 14 year old male, and I have read the entire Twilight series and I HATE them. I'm a big fan of this site and I'm glad to be a part of it.
Now, the subject matter... I came across this quote from Stephenie Meyer..
"WHAT IF...
So what happens when True Love in the form of Edward Cullen leaves Bella?"
What makes her think that her characters are so much better than everyone else's? Those other men were much better than Edward if you ask me. Does anyone else think she's a bit self-centered?
Has anyone ever read Smeyer's acknowledgments?
« Thread Started on Oct 4, 2008, 5:27pm »
Well, they're more or less two pages of the same thing every time, but something in her acknowledgments in Eclipse stood out to me.
Most of all, a gargantuan thank-you to all of my fans. I firmly believe that my fans are the most attractive, intelligent, exciting and dedicated fans in the whole world.
The idea of her fans being "the most intelligent in the world" can be argued, but what stood out to me was that she thinks they are the most "attractive."
Not only is it the first thing she lists, but why in the hell should that even be important? Just further proof that SMeyer is painfully shallow.
I don't know. I was just curious as to what y'all's thoughts are.
Charity: Rowling vs Meyer
« Thread Started on Apr 4, 2009, 9:57am »
watching one of Shmeiliarockie's videos, she asked the metaphorical question "Which author donates money to charity and which one charges for autographs?"
Well, I found this interesting website called "Look to the Stars" which looks at celebrity charity work.
[link]Causes supported:
AIDS, Animals, Cancer, Children, Creative Arts, Education, Family/Parent Support, Health, Homelessness, Human Rights, Hunger, Literacy, Mental Challenges, Physical Challenges, Poverty, Refugees, Women
Charities supported
* Book Aid International
* Catie Hoch Foundation
* Children's High Level Group
* Children with AIDS
* Dyslexia Action
* Haven Foundation
* Heifer International
* Make A Child Smile Appeal
* Multiple Sclerosis Society
* One Parent Families
* Raisa Gorbachev Foundation
* Women's Fund for Scotland
* XP Support Group
So, Rowling has done quite a lot for charity.Here are the results for Stephanie Meyer:
[link]0 matching celebrities found

Ok, so she isn't on this website. Still, let's give the girl a chance. Just because she's not on this website, it doesn't mean she doesn't do charity. I turned to Google. Here's the first website it pulled up:
[link]It appears to be a news article talking about how famous her books are. OK, well, it's bound to detail something philanthropic.
Let's see, mention of a $750k advance on the book, then a description of a book signing event where she wore an elaborate burgundy dress and hired models to pose for pictures.
A Seattle organization called All For Kids is offering $5 for a photo with said models, the money for which will be donated to charity. Not Meyer, but a Seattle charity group. OK, OK, I'm trying to be generous here. Let's just say that Meyer let them handle the logistics of the charity. Surely she's donated a sum of money.
I'll just do a page search for "donation."
And I'm back to the $5 a photo part. Well, maybe it's the wrong word. I'll search the page for the word "give". And it leads me to a sidebar where they give free tickets if you appear with a copy of the newly released Eclipse. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that. This article is from August of 2007. And it was the very first thing Google found in regards to my search.
Ok then, maybe I'm including too many modifiers. Let's try "Stephanie Meyer charity" Ah! here we are! The search mentions an officially registered tax deductible non profit charity on her Wikipedia page. Surely she's done some good with it.
Oh wait, it's just the Wikimedia foundation's footnote saying they're a charity. In fact, that is the only time the word charity appears on the entire Wikipedia page.
Let's see what JK Rowling's page says.
Alright, name, background, Harry Potter, here we go, Philanthropy. According to her wikipedia page, referencing a USA today article, she has established a charity group spending 5.1 million pounds.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages have raised $30 million in charity, twenty million of which was channeled into an "International Fund for Children and Young People in Crisis."
So, has Meyer done any charity work for anyone? Well, I did find this:
[link]"One of my dear friends and mentors, Faith Hochhaltera truly gifted book buyer who put together some of my most successful eventswas recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I am not the only author who was helped along by her talent and enthusiasm, and all of us who have enjoyed her influence in our lives and careers are eager to help her through this rough time. To assist with her medical bills, several young adult writers are joining together for a fund-raising event: Project Save the Book Babe. "
Oh. How nice. So apparently you'll help people, but they have to help you first. You know, even Don Corleone didn't take that approach, and he was a criminal.
What's that? I'm being harsh? Well tough titties lady, I'm through being generous. Your books have sold 42 million copies. I bought Twilight for $8. 8*42 million= 336 million. Even you can't spend all that on cookies, Ice cream and cake. You could have done something to give back to all the people that made you famous.
But I guess there's just no profit in that.
Since SMeyer is screwing up mythology already...
« Thread Started on Nov 6, 2008, 8:22pm »
Let's predict what she'll screw up next!
So far, we've got:
Vampires=Incubus
Libishomen=Vampire/Incubus
Mermaids=Sirens
Now what else can she screw up?
Naga=Reptoids
Sirens=angels
Mermaids=Atlanteans
Suddenly, SMeyer is too good for her fans

[Sorry if this has been previously discussed]
When I was a fan of the books in 2005, Stephenie Meyer was still relatively unknown and had a very small fan following. The Twilight Lexicon had barely articles, there wasn't even rumors of a movie deal and she was still taking snail mail and e-mails.
Now, four years later, this is not the case. In my opinion, that is utter bullshit.
This is an exact quote from the webmaster, Seth, and his page on StephenieMeyer.com:
For those of you hoping to find an email address or a way to contact Stephenie I apologize. There is currently no way for fans to get in contact with her. Stephenie is still much too busy to re-open her fan email or snail mail addresses. Also, I cannot forward emails. She is in the process of writing/editing multiple books, and I think we can all agree that we would rather that she spends her time writing instead of reading thousands of emails every day.
Are you kidding me? She doesn't have time to read her e-mail or snail mail? JK Rowling has twice the fanmail and twice the fanbase and she still sifts through all of her fanmail. She may not get to it for awhile, but she understands the importance of appreciating her fans and acknowledging their support and love of her series.
This is not the first time Stephenie Meyer has disregarded her fans. The entire fiasco with Midnight Sun is something for the ages. She is butthurt by the big bad meanies, so she decides not release the book she has promised to her fans. This is selfish and inconsiderate. If you ignore your fans and their support (or constructive criticism, which is an attack on her personage and raw intellect and talent, according to Meyer logic), you should at least keep your promises.
I have never heard or seen an author act so discourteous to their fans. If I ever get published and receive fanmail, I will answer them, each and every single one, by myself, without generic pre-written responses because these people, who take the time to write into you, deserve to be acknowledged by you, personally. They are the ones reading your work, buying your work (and other merchandise, if there is), supporting you and telling all their friends about you. They at least deserve to have you say thank you and answer their questions. I just think it's polite and the right thing to do, or else you are going to start losing fans. They only stick by you for so long. I'm surprised the Twilight fans haven't gotten upset or angry about this yet. I would feel unappreciated and slightly neglected. I wouldn't read her work again, if I were a fan, if I were treated like this.
And, honestly, I don't think Stephenie Meyer is all that busy (not now). Looking at her lack of coherence and writing, maybe answering a few thousand letters and emails will hone her writing skills.
By the way, if you managed to see till here, here's a treaty from the horror maestro, STEPHEN KING!!
Fresh from hollywood.com~~~
And I mean, hell, HOLLYWOOD!!!
Stephen King: 'Twilight' Bites!
What does horror maestro Stephen King think of the latest vamp rage?
In an interview with USA Weekend, King compared Twilight author Stephenie Meyer with Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
Meyer lost.
King didn''t mince words, either: "Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people," he said. "The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer, and Meyer can't write worth a darn."
But he does understand the appeal of the apparently crappy series.
"People are attracted by the stories, by the pace, and in the case of Stephenie Meyer, it's very clear that she's writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It's exciting and it's thrilling, and it's not particularly threatening because it's not overtly sexual."
"A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin," he continues, "and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that's a shorthand for all the feelings that they're not ready to deal with yet."
