5 Tips to Improve your Photography w/o a Camera

*Photo--Assignment:iconPhoto--Assignment: reports, November 16
The tips here are designed to help you get your eye in, even when you’ve deliberately or (apparently possible) accidentally left your camera at home. They’re also good for anyone who just wants to take a step back and spend some time thinking about where they could go next, without actually doing anything.

Basic stock rules translated? Input please.

^Hanratty-Stock:iconHanratty-Stock: reports, November 13
We'd like input from the stock artists and the stock users to try to make using and understanding dA stock a little easier for everyone and we know that not everyone's mother tongue is English so a little translation might well help.

Faves and comments

~elmagonia:iconelmagonia: reports, 1d 13h ago
Personally, I appreciate them both.
But to be quite honest, faves are more important
(to an artist or writer themselve)

Hm, why is that?
Comments, yeah.
Everyone wants them.
ALL the time. No matter what. I've had a few times where I made nagging journals, constantly asking and begging people to comment my work no matter what. I didn't care if they had the time or not. I didn't care if they had a life or not.
I.
didn't.
care.

So, since I've seen (a few, actually a lot of) people get a bit overwhelmed only because some deviation that they worked on for hours on end doesn't get the needed amount of comments. But it has about over 30 or 40 faves. So what? I'd be honored to have one of my own deviations with that many faves. Wanna know why?

Because if half of you haven't realized by now, faves CAN get you noticed. Basically, it's like a dieses or a chain letter. It spreads.
One deviant faves it, others see it and they fave it as well. Possibly a few might even comment it. But that depends on who they are in general. I've had a few of my deviations faved by people I haven't even heard of, and still I get them all the time.

Unlike comments, they just give you more and more views. Nothing really special. Sure, you might get a few "oh that's awesome" or "that is so frappin' unique!" or whatever.

Well what if I wanted both comment AND faves, what do I do?
What do you do?
Give in return.
If YOU want faves or comments, you're gonna' have to comment AND fave other deviations, and just like the subject before. You can get noticed. But it depends on the deviation. Though, of course, if you're one of those people who instantly want to get noticed. Then good luck. It's not gonna take you 15 or 20 deviations to reach up to about 5,000 or possibly 10,000 pageviews. But that is totally off topic. Maybe if I have time (or if i even want to) I'll probably do another news letter.

Stolen Tattoo Machines (Both Micky Sharpz brand; Visual reference attached below):
Iron Radial Dial: Serial Number: 15872 (engraved on machine): Machine type: 000
Stainless Steel Hybrid

Hello,

I was robbed early yesterday morning, and among what was taken that was mine, beside my tattoo machines (mentioned above), was the following:

-PowerBoook G4 which is damaged on the right end (right above the disk slot)
-80GB ipod (which as japanese language enabled)
-A Japanese PSP (mint green) with three games in it's black zip up case (locoroco, patapon, and final fantasy)
-PowerShot A95 Digital Camera (which contained my last tattoo (done that same early morning), and pictures of a couple friends holding my cat and it's newborn kitten.
-Helio Ocean cell phone
-Most importantly, an 9x12 Art portfolio with about 20 images. Some of which are the following:

And alot more that can be found on the rest of my site [link] as well as some that have yet to be posted on my online galleries.

-In the back of the portfolio, there is a book [link] (half english, half japanese) and fliers for my custom tattoo service with my contact info and a sample of my work (one has [link] , and another as [link] ).

I'd really appreciate any help to recovering anything mentioned. But most importantly, I'd just like my art portfolio back. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

Thank you so very much for your time. If you have any leads, MOST IMPORTANTLY on my portfolio (and ipod, as that was used as a back-up drive for the digital artwork on my powerbook), please email me. I'll most certainly try to repay you for any help given. AS LONG AS MY PORTFOLIO IS RETURNED, I don't care about anything else.

Best,

Jainai Jeffries

------------End Copy and Paste------------

This entire journal is copy and pasted from my gmail, because if I look at my artwork on DA for too long... I'm going to cry.

ALL of my digital work (psd's, hi-res back ups...Every. Single. One.) , back-up of old work and pieces I no longer have, a majority of comics I've worked on, my 2008 thesis (tokeil, zen...and MANY I have yet to post anywhere online), client work...gone. Along with one of my art portfolios (about 24 images inside) containing the works mentioned above and more original B&W (THEIR back up was on the the laptop and the back-up drive (ipod)...both gone.) Squirrel Mage, Queen's herald, Apple creature. Also a couple of art pads, one filled with ALL 24 hr commissions I've done so far except for one. This leaves me with portfolio's of just line work (and a few traditionally colored). No digital colored psd's. I am sure I'll be able to recover hi-res jpegs of my most recent colored work (thanks to redbubble and inprnt), and work I've done for clients. Besides artwork on my laptop...was my only pictures from when I lived in Japan as well. All invoices, contracts, website back-up files....

I'm sorry I can't mail you those pictures Coey and Kizzy...

Please, if you're in LA (or just around the nets) and happen to come across any work that looks like mine...feel free to drop me a note or email. Any leads will be greatly appreciated. I know there's a large chance of my work just being thrown away...but I figured it really wouldn't hurt to try.

What worries me, is that I haven't really started to mourn. I've cried maybe 4-5 times so far, and each time, literally lasted for less than a minute. I want to cry...so...so bad. But it's as if...it hasn't fully hit me yet, or it's just too much for me to let it out all at once.

I know I'll get past this. I have to. And I don't like to be materialistic...but...concerning my artwork...

It's not like I'm going to stop creating and working towards my goals (FAR from it). But...let me mourn...just for a few days...a week...

Thank you for reading though all this. I really do appreciate it, and any leads that may help to find my art portfolio.

This...truly hurts...so much....

One thing I learned was, you got get your self a weapon... Like a high powered wireless nail gun from Home Depot or somethin. Its a good insured investment, in such a case,...

Grrrrr I feel for you!
