The first half of a two-part article on cliches vs. originality, split because of length. It may require some cleaning up; please note me with criticisms, as I don't always see comments left on news articles. Thank you.

Writing Prompts and Features #1

=bekkia:iconbekkia: reports, July 11
These are the prompts I have given over the past month or so. There are no time constraints, so if you do one, please note me and I will put it in a collection.

:bulletred: "Sometimes I think childhood memories are fabricated like pearls around a grain of sand."
:bulletorange: Love
:bulletyellow: Sea
:bulletgreen: Base your work off a title that is a phrase in another language. Have it mean something important in the story/poem.
:bulletblue: Write a poem like a letter for poetry, or a letter like a poem for prose. Always make the feelings real.
:bulletpurple: Reference old theatre or black and white films.
:bulletred: Go find a literature template and use it!
:bulletorange: Write a haiku of something you saw today
:bulletyellow: Write a short story 50-500 words long based on a haiku of your choice. Be sure to credit the original.
:bulletgreen: Write about possibly ficticious events that include your family history, or at least use the names of people in your extended family.
:bulletblue: Write a Sestina, and be sure to tell a story with it in a way the repetitions don't sound awkward.
:bulletpurple: Write about a custom of a culture other than your own
:bulletred: Write about an escape, but be original. You can't use any words like black or shadow or blood. Trite words are menos puntos.
:bulletorange: Find an obscure historical catastrophe and write about it. The more absurd, the better.
:bulletyellow: Write a poem set in a city you have visited, but don't say the city's name.
:bulletgreen: Write a short piece based on a famous work of art, preferably not so famous it's been done before.

<3 I'm happy.
I love the prompts. :D

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.
:iconanavah:
How sweet! Thank you. :)

I also wrote a haiku which initiated the entire Haiku chain gang!

No need to thank me for "Faves" or Watches; however, if you feel the need, please do so in my Shoutbox.

Thank you.
:iconbekkia:
I didn't know if you submitted that one. That whole day was so vague. :faint:
:iconanavah:
?! That was the one that Tinkwig responded to and then the entire Haiku chain started! How could you forget that?! :p

:iconbekkia:
I don't know, okay. I'm only human...
:iconanavah:
I hope you're not being dramatic or defensive because I'm not being critical. I'm only kidding around. The " :P " typically means that. :)

Your Haiku prompt produced my Haiku, which Tinkwig responded to. Then that started the ball rolling for the entire haiku chain gang, which now exceeds 235 haiku! I think it's exciting stuff!

I'm not trying to be either, I'm just not having a good time of things right now.
:iconanavah:
I'm sorry. :(

Upheaval can be upsetting. I hope things get better for you soon and you find yourself settled again.
