Hello, and welcome to...
Embrace the Cliché! #001: Shadows of Hearts in BooksEmbrace the Cliché! is a news series that highlights a solid one hundred examples of each artistic cliché featured. As for this one, you can take comfort in knowing that as long as there are photographers here, there will always be new photographs of shadows of hearts in books.
The classic "shadow of a heart in a book" photographs here seem to have their origins in 2005 when a lot of people were placing photographic filters inside of books to create the heart shadow. Because most people don't have photographic filters, by far the most popular object to place inside of the book now seems to be rings, though CDs and glasses are quite common as well.
As for the book in question, most of the time it is one of the following:
Any given novel.
The Bible (or another religious text).
A dictionary (usually opened to the page that contains the entry for "heart" or "love").
A copy of Stephanie Meyer's
Twilight.
The number of deviations which use one of the
Twilight books surprised me. I guess a lot of people just really love those books (I'll have to pick one up someday...)
This particular cliché seems to be immensely popular with viewers. Listen up, beginning photographers: the straight path to a ton of

s on your work is through setting a ring (or bracelet or bifocals) within the pages of your favorite book. Seriously though, virtually all of the ones that I encountered in my journey to find one hundred examples of this cliché had multiple

s (and, quite often, several comments about how original the photograph isgo figure).
So, without further ado, here are some prime examples of one of deviantART's most beloved clichés!

So... why learn?
