CNN Money examines in depth the art site Etsy.com and the struggle it is currently facing to keep it's user base, fellow artist's like us on deviantART. It is a very interesting read, to say the least, and will surely raise a few eyebrows.
I like the idea behind Etsy...but the only things I've seen that I really would like to buy either a) don't ship outside the US or b) are ridiculously expensive
I am yet to advertise my RedBubble site (other than on here), but I don't expect to be able to live off the profits; I would only expect to live off the profits of a) a very time-consuming studio-based portraiture business or b) a very time consuming landscape/nature photography business...not from selling a few photos anywhere on the web.

Because "Because I'm worth it" isn't an excuse. Not now. Not ever.
The people I know who have tried selling on Etsy, myself included, have given up because sales were so slow. Artfire or EBay have been far better venues for our things. Now that the economy is down, I would think Etsy would even be slower for sales.
I don't make money though DA, but I *do* make money selling my art.
If you have a nitch in a market, and can vend in an appropriate venue for your product, people are still buying, though I've found they're not buying as much as they did in better economic times.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
