Introduction

Reading the article's title , you may wonder , what does 'GM' stand for ? who are they the 'GMs' ? and why on earth do we need to thank them ?

GM is basically a shortcut of 'Gallery moderator' . For each gallery in deviantArt there is a moderator ; Gallery moderators are a group of volunteers whom have the tools which allow them to do things a normal member cannot do , such as : Awarding DDs , being a community voice ,move misplaced deviations and much more.

# Here you can find the list of the GMs to each gallery (Who selects the Daily Deviation and how is it chosen? ). I would also suggest keeping an eye on this account *stafflist for every single change .


I believe that each and every single GM has put so much efforts in this community and still does , and I can't imagine how selfish and apathetic it can be if we don't , for once in our entire life , stand together and shout "thank you" For all the GMs : For spending their personal time on us , on trying to improve our community , for their kindness and for all the love they show to us .

As an ordinary member , you might not feel how hard and tiring being a gallery moderator could be , and that is completely fine as long as you are , at least, well-aware of the pressure every GM is under .With so many DD Suggestions to read , so many notes including complicated questions , so many dramas and a great amount of deviation to move to the correct category ; Can you even imagine that every GM goes through this process DAILY ? That's true , it must be extremely tiring and still , GMs are doing their best and their hardest to keep control and to do their job as best as ever possible .

Wherefore, I decided that the time has come for us to gather our love, our gratitude and our thankfulness for the great GMs team for every single minute they spend on us, they have made a lot of people happy, they made US happy, especially by awarding DDs. GMs brought so much delight for each one of us, by taking care of us and by turning this community into a place in which we call "home".

Dear GM , YOU made us happy

Dear GM , perhaps you do not notice how happy someone feels when getting a DD , since it is simply a very routine thing as you feature DDs almost everyday and you get comments like "thank you,you made my day , etc" everyday , so in time , it will be something you are used to , and before you even realize it , you will lose the sense of feeling the happiness and the joy someone feels when you award a DD for them .However , today , I will try with the help of the collaborative community , to refresh your thoughts and to assure you guys that we do appreciate your time you spend on us and it this time it wouldn't be just a an ordinarily 'thank you' .

I wanted every GM to know that their job is so-much appreciated ! for this , I have sent notes to people who has been awarded a DD by every one GM , and there is about a 70 GM , which means I had to go through all the 70 GM's DDs and send notes to those who got a DD . In my notes , I asked people how did they feel when they got a DD , and here are the results :

It was a big forest and in my past I always thought that there is something ancient and magical in this forest.When I got the DD , I was really suprised, stunned, shocked and proud of this picture that day.I was really happy! That DD means that those characters also have a right to be popular. "

I was definitely touched and overjoyed. I never would have expected to get a DD on one of my simple little digital realism busts. I am really glad and humbled that they chose my artwork as a DD/highlight under the anthro section, especially since this section is full of so many other mind-numbingly talented artists! "

It was kind of ironic for Listen Carefully to be featured, because there are several more polished and larger paintings in my gallery, and this one I actually rolled out with a comparatively small size and resolution because when painting it I had low expectations on how it would turn out. I'm thrilled though for it getting all the attention it has gotten, because it is also one of my most stylized works, the kind of what enjoy painting the most. "

I appreciated the attention because it showed off something that I don't normally create, a whole new style, and to have that noticed out of the army of dragons I have choking up my gallery made me feel more apt to continue to make similarly designed, quality works."

- ~XtasiK : "About the DD , I was on an artgroup called Act One, this guys set a theme for their exhibition pack, called "Distance", I was actually working on another piece when I saw that stock and said to myself... "hell! I want to create a scene from that awesome pose!" The piece is called "D E E P" for 2 simple reasons, the bizarre perspective and the look of that eyes.It started as a simple vector pose, but I was getting more involved with the work, I added more details than the original piece I planned and started to add some raster details that made the piece a vexel, I just tried to make something different from the usual portraits, I dont know if it was a success, but I'm quite satisfied with the piece"

Wake Up was my first DD that I had every received and I always knew that my art was worthy of a little attention, but I never expected that much. It's everyone's own opinions, but it does take a lot of hard work and time to achieve what I did, so I was definitely surprised but pleased. It gave me some encouragement to continue what I do.!"

- ~fabulosity :" I was so happy and shocked! I didn't even think I was going to get another one after I got a DD for my Aaliyah vexel. I logged in the day after I got it, and noticed I had about four hundred messages and I was thinking to myself, "What's going on?". That's when I figured out that I got the Daily Deviation. I'm so thankful that I got a DD, I would never have thought because I'm always picking apart things I could do better with my vexels."


- ~yummiedesire :" when I received a daily deviation of my "We Will Be The Shadows," I was actually quite surprised. I remember when I first submitted it , I was in love with it. Although I believed that I loved it and found it to have deeper meanings, I was afraid that other deviants wouldn't acknowledge it as much because I mean, there are so many other great vexel artists out there! And when I see their works it makes me want to work so much harder. So when I came to my inbox filled with about 400 messages and found out it was for that specific piece my response was "Wow, I didn't think that other deviants would like this piece as much as I did when I first submitted it!"

It is not meant to describe a specific technique, which would be pointless here in my opinion, but a complete process from A to Z on how to integrate concept, preparation, camera work and post production to reach out for the result you want to achieve. I believe many deviants are also here to learn and master this process, which has tremendously changed with digital photography, and I was therefore more than happy to share my own experience. The tutorial is based on a specific photograph that had already received itself a DD and which was raising literally hundreds of questions in the comments, and I can't recall the number of times I wished myself to receive such explanations on other deviants' works. Interestingly, when I originally submitted a photo of my fresh, bloody cutting, Battledress contacted me saying that my piece had been removed due to inappropriate content, basically. Well, it wasn't removed, per se, but had to have the mature content filter on it because of all of the blood. She did say, however, that she really liked it and wanted to see a submission of the healed piece later on, but I had no idea that I was going to be checked up on and featured for it in the future. She also told me that she was hoping to get a separate category started for body modification submissions, which really excited me. (I see this has now been completed... score!) I totally appreciated her attitude about the whole thing (this kind of morphs me into answering question #3); she was very tactful in obeying the rules of DA and not allowing my bloody cutting to be a public deviation, but it was clear that she also understood exactly what the purpose of my submission was, and realized the vast and important distinction between body modification and generic gore or self-mutilation. She also sent me a PM upon featuring me, advising me on how to respond to hostile comments, because she knew that the controversial nature of my piece would elicit some pretty extreme reactions. It was clear that she appreciated the symbolic purpose of my cutting and saw it as an important thing to share with the world in spite of all that, and I definitely respect that position. I was impressed by her integrity in handling the matter, for sure. I can't say I have a whole lot of life-altering advice for GMs, except to reinforce what I've just said about Battledress. I think a lot is to be said for a GM who has such an understanding of and passion for their medium that they will make such a ballsy move as to risk pissing off a good half of the people who see their selections, in the interest of really bringing good art to people and making the community think. Certainly it's important to give the community what they want a lot of the time, but I would advice GMs not to be afraid of criticism in the instances in which they really want to choose something for its deeper value that not everybody will get. I think we all understand, to a degree, that art exists for the purpose of expression, and that inherently it's not always going to be lubby-dubby and feel-good family-friendly art. Sometimes putting something a little edgier out there is important."

5 minutes that beat the truth (video)

I have always found videos more "alive" than words and pictures , videos connect me well to the mood instantly , along with the background melody . This was the main reason why I decided to record a video , a thanking video to appreciate and to thank you dear GMs in another direction . Apart from that , I thought it would be fun to watch the video since reading articles could be tiring as well and watching the video would be a great break .

I don't really have anything to explain nor tell about the video , but I wrote everything in the video information's box , you can read there .

I am sorry for the very , very poor quliaty of the video ! I have it with a wonderful quaility here in my PC but it is so heavey and I have uploaded it 5 times on the net but I ALWAYS get errors .

I was really disappointed because I worked so hard for this video , but I had no other opition than to upload it in very poor quilaity , I am so sorry .. I hope you'd still enjoy it though !

A little notes

- I know that I will be getting a hell of comments telling me that I should thank the Staff team first and such , and I wanna let you guys know that you don't have to worry about it , there is a plan for the staff as well ! just let be a surprise .. and there's no doubts that
the staff members owe us so much , and thank you dear staff members !

- Whether you noticed it or not , there are two names above without a hat beside their nicknames , which means they are NOT GMs , and the reason why I'm including them is because when I started to do the list they both were GMs , and I already added their names , so I didn't bother to remove them .

- The list of the GMs is in no specific order.

And in the end ..

Nothing was ever built to last , and one day , whether we like it or not , every GM will take off their hat and new GM will take their place , and life goes on , circles never end.
