From Scripts to Flicks
Collaboration is a word which gets batted around on deviantArt, and something which we love to encourage! In this contest we are looking at collaboration in the professional world and giving you a chance to share in that experience. Excited? Read on!
What now?
This is a contest consisting of two halves. The first is a literature based contest in scriptwriting. The second is a film contest which will see films produced from the winning scripts of the first contest.
Part 1: Literature
The Scriptwriting Part has been broken into the following sub-categories which you can submit to:

Screenplay

Comic scripts

Poetry

Writers must submit a
new piece of work to any of these sub categories. Any piece written prior to this article will not be considered.

When writing, keep in mind that someone has to transform your work into film.

Scripts need to be formatted clearly to indicate differences in dialogue, description, and direction. If you wish to use screenwriting software and upload your work as a PDF, feel free to do so. For more advice and resources check out the BBC Writers room --
[link] . However, standard text with html formatting will also work.

The scripts should be designed to run in one to seven minutes of film. Consider this in your writing, especially when including directions and considering pace. Read your script aloud, get other people to read with you, and try to stay within the time limit.

Please ensure your submission is polished and checked for spelling and grammar mistakes.

Entries need to be submitted to: Contests> 2009> From Scripts to Flicks> Scripts. Please also clarify in the author comments that this is for the From Scripts to Flicks contest.

The deadline for all literature entries will be the
31st August. Any late submissions will not be considered.
Winners and Judging
Well select up to
15 winning scripts in total, 5 from each sub-category. The winning entries will be listed as scripts for members of the film community to choose from in the second part of the contest. In addition, there will be one grand prize winner and two runners up.
Judging will be based on how well the two forms merge--in the first part, how adaptable the writing is to film, and in the second, how the film has interpreted the writing. Submissions will also be judged on originality and pizzazz.
General judging for literature will include quality of the piece, the technical merits of the writing, understanding of writing for audience, and the understanding of film formats.
The literature team will choose 15 winning entries. The film team will then be invited to judge the grand prize winner, plus two runners up, out of those entries.

No film should last over 7 minutes.

"Free Download" does not mean the same thing as "Royalty Free". CDs or tracks you have purchased and "take" from your own music library is not "Royalty Free".
