Personas: Lightweight themeing for Firefox!

=edmunn:iconedmunn: reports, July 15
Personas are lightweight, easy to install and easy to change “skins” for your Firefox web browser.

Personas builds upon the ideas that:
Themes today are too hard to find, install and use

Graphic designers should be able to style the browser without having to code

Browsers can be more than just desktop software, they can include online components

People just want their computer to be a little more fun and personal

Labs has just begun exploring the possible benefits of an online component to deliver a better browser experience. There much to explore in this regard; Personas is a simple example. Persona selector is dynamically loaded and populated from a JSON feed and all designs are loaded via URLs to remote resources. All changes to the browser chrome are applied instantly, with no need to restart.

It's a very good system, and I recomend trying it out to get the most from Firefox!

Alias|Wavefront introduces: SketchBook Pro

`netghost:iconnetghost: reports, November 13, 2002
In preperation for the new wave of TabletPCs. AliasWavefront, the makers of the popular 3D modeling software Maya, have released a free version their tablet program SketchBook. There is a free download available [here].

"Alias SketchBook Pro is a business and personal productivity tool that transforms your Tablet PC into a digital sketchbook, available anywhere, any time."

Alias SketchBook is designed for pressure-sensitive Tablet PC devices running the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system. It will also operate on PCs with the following minimum system requirements:

:bulletred: A 266 MHz Intel Pentium II or greater computer running either Windows XP or Windows 2000 ONLY.
:bulletred: 128 MB of memory and 16-bit color display
:bulletred: A pressure-sensitive Wacom tablet and pen, strongly recommended for basic sketching features.

SketchBook is similar to programs such as Painter and Photoshop, though the downloadable version is fairly simplistic. It will work just fine with a Wacom tablet, or a standard mouse. The program seems to be a little buggy with certain configurations (like multi monitor setups), but otherwise is pretty neat. Try it out now, it's free :)

Awesome, yet another reason why a Tablet PC could come in handy. I'd prefer seeing Photoshop on it though :) (Smile)

°attila:iconattila: Nov 16, 2002, 8:17:25 AM
`monaux, because this is digital.. and because it's a TabletPC, not just a sketchbook.. the sketchbook is just software for the TabletPC :) (Smile)
