Hey everyone, your friendly neighborhood deviant ~helenovision here! A couple of days ago, I came up with an idea that I'd really like to see put in motion here on dA, so I'm going to try and pitch it, and hopefully I get some positive response from you guys and gals!

On September 9, 2009, the English version of the Squaresoft RPG, Final Fantasy VIII will be turning a decade old, the big 1-0. Personally, I wanted to create a sort of mural/collage thing to commemerate the event, but when thinking about it, I figured why stop there? What if there was a bigger way to celebrate? What if there was a way to unite the fans of this game for the anniversary?

And then it hit me...let's do an Art Jam!

For those of you not familiar with the idea of an Art Jam, here's a quick explanation. It's not a contest, but rather an ordeal where many artists get to together and art something of the same subject. In this case, it would be anything related to Final Fantasy VIII. ANYTHING, in ANY MEDIA. That includes cosplay, Flash animations, macaroni art. It's completely up to you!

I know it's not the most popular installment in the FF franchise, often looked down for one reason or another, and I know that it's not a 'erfect' game. But, I do know that the fans of this game are incredible, and this is a way of bringing them together for the love of it, and to show our enjoyment of the fandom.

Oh, and I really don't want to hear anyone commenting about how much they hate this game, or anything derogatory like that. Let's try and keep this a cheery little event. If you don't like it, ignore it and find something else to do with your time.

So, as far as deadlines and rules go for this;

Art Jam begins today, August 10, 2009. As I want as many entries, and as many people to contribute as possible, the last day of the Jam won't be on the day of the anniversary, but rather the Saturday of that week, September 12, 2009. That way, the celebration lasts through out the week.

Participants can enter as many pieces as they wish for the Art Jam.

Pieces for the Art Jam should be created exclusively for the Art Jam. I would be very appreciative if you did not submit already existing work, but rather some brand spanking new stuff for the event. If you do submit pre-existing work, I'll allow it, but I'd rather see some shiny new stuff rather than all the things that are sitting in my Final Fantasy VIII collection in my Favourites. It would kind of defeat the purpose of holding this event if I didn't receive any new works for it.

To submit pieces for the Art Jam, Note me, ~helenovision, with the subject 'FFVIII Art Jam'. That way, I can keep track of things, as well as your entries, which will be posted here.
