This is the eighth month in the series that features all of the Artisan Crafts Daily Deviations from the previous month. In addition to each Daily Deviation will be the DD description that went with it, which sub-gallery it is located in, and the name of the suggester. I hope you enjoy this series and this month's DDs for August 2009!

Aug 1 -- Pop-up Pests by =kankakanka (Folding & Papercraft)

The artist said that the folds in this pop-up book of pets destroying and devouring a city were rather simple. I will take her word at that, for now anyway, until I'm able to just get past this remarkable book as a whole and its astonishing coloring.


Aug 2 -- Fighting Heart by *Evil-Uke-Sora (Costumes)

The suggester said that this is an "amazing costume, best one for Sora from Kingdom Hearts I've ever seen." Suggested by =GeorgiaPeaches.


Aug 3 -- This is not a Love Song by ~bosscatt (Fiber Art)

An extraordinary and unique piece of fiber art, worked totally with stitching and embroidering on various fabrics. The way she manipulated the fabrics for the crow is especially fascinating.


Aug 4 -- Faery by ~theforgery (Metalwork)

Eagerly suggested by many people, this metal faery sculpture was not cast, but forged and welded together with a mig welder. It was on display last month at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. Suggested by *cl2007 and several others.


Aug 5 Steampunk Goggles number 2 by ~AmbassadorMann (Metalwork)

Completely handmade solid brass Steampunk goggles with 4mm thick transparent red perspex, veg-tanned cowhide, 5mm brass pipe strap holders, and handmade buckles.


Aug 6 -- Midnight brooch by *szilviabead (Jewelry)

The suggester, who wished to be anonymous, said of this brooch: "It is, in my opinion, a very intricate piece, a skillfully designed, subtle representation of the feminine beauty of 'midnight' as a mythic, artistic concept. There is danger in it (the windy, cold curls) and there's mystery in it (it's like a miniature labyrinth). And at its heart, opposing the previous but gaining meaning from the contrast is a crystal that, like the Moon, reflects and radiates a peaceful blue that illuminates the way through the wired maze. Viewed in its entirety, the piece seems to be a key - a living key to a realm our modern minds seldom journey to."


Aug 7 -- Heart Full of Stars by ~silverbeam (Folding & Papercraft)

How many stars fill the sky? In this heart there are 1,544 origami stars in different sizes and a variety of colors and the heart is only about 12" (30.5cm) big! The smallest are only about 1/4" (6mm), the middle-sized ones about a half inch (12mm) and the biggest an inch and a half (37mm).


Aug 8 -- Steampunk Egg by ~Awfulsouls (Miscellaneous)

The suggester wrote, "It’s an amazing piece of Steampunk art. Inspired by a Fabergé Egg, =awfulsouls was able to put a stunning twist on a classic. Not only did she take the time to make such a stunning piece, but she showcased the piece perfectly in the photograph. So far it remains one of the best Steampunk pieces I’ve seen." Aug 9 -- Deco bow by *tracyholcomb (Accessories)

*tracyholcomb's gallery has so many hand-made handbags that it would easy to find one that you'd like. This exterior on this one is made entirely of green and gold silk duppioni, including the handle. The interior is satin and has two pockets and can be found in her gallery if you want to take a further look at this handbag. 10 1/2” wide x 6 1/4” high (26.7mm x 16mm).


Aug 10 -- Witchhunter 2.0 -3 by ~Leder-Joe (Leatherwork)

The suggester wrote, "~Leder-Joe is a design team and is new here, but they have already made quite a splash with their well designed work! Witchhunter 2.0 is movie quality work... hat, boots, armor... all are amazing." There are so many incredible details to take in, so this should be seen in fullview. Suggested by =FrockTarts.


Aug 11 -- Mjollnir by *Wodenswolf (Jewelry)

The suggester wrote, "The sheer amount of detail arranged in such a small piece can only hint at this artist's talent, but the detail isn't crowded or over-worked. The picture is clear and captivating. Plus, there aren't many outstanding pendants carved from cow bone!" Suggested by ~lakotawolf116.


Aug 12 -- Freya - To be forgotten... by *ClamWings (Costumes)

The suggester who wished to be anonymous wrote, "It's not often I see a cosplay and think 'That person had made that character more appealing,' but *ClamWings managed to do that for me. In the first shot, she has so much depth to it, she just becomes Freya. There is expression in this cosplay. Anthro cosplays are hard, but I think she has done it, she looks real - animalistic and human at the same time. Every aspect of her cosplays are as accurate as the drawing itself, and she always does the ridiculously hard or uncommon characters. I think this is a perfect example of the rest of her work."


Aug 13 -- Inkorruptible II by ~sprat (Woodworking)

A modified guitar that really deserves to be seen in fullview to take in all the details done with a sharpie pen and then sealed with lacquer. The suggester wrote that "The attention to detail and obvious passion that sent into it are outstanding." Also be sure to take a look at his gallery because there is, at this time, one other modded guitar in there and I hope that he will continue to add more guitars to his gallery. Aug 14 -- mosaic zibra by ~mosaic-masters (Sculpture & Glass)

Made by a group of twelve mosaic artists, I did not know at first what medium was used when I saw the thumbs in these ladies' gallery, but when I clicked on them, I was astonished to see that these are lovely and intricate mosaics. And, they're no small mosaics either as they are actually quite huge and magnificent! Please do check out their gallery to see their other equally wonderful and astonishing mosaics.


Aug 15 -- Retro platinum bracelet by ~carimariwilsenach (Jewelry)

This award-winning jeweler whose "personal style is modern, simplistic jewellery with clean lines and repetition" works with silver, gold, platinum, palladium, precious gemstones, and acrylic resins and has had pieces exhibited all over the world. This bracelet consists of platinum, transparent blue acrylic resin, blue round topazes that can be seen at the top of each tube, and stainless steel springs.


Aug 16 -- Macchia II by ~VauntDesigns (Clothing)

The artist said in her artist's comments above that this one reminds her of Dale Chihuly's glass macchias. I think she's referring to mainly the collar, but it could apply to the bodice and skirt as well because Chihuly's macchias, loosely put, are glass vessels with rippling, widely ruffled edges and using vivid colors. Such vividness and joie de vivre here! Suggested by =drop-asd.


Aug 17 -- Earth Tree - Revisited by *rhodespottery (Sculpture & Glass)

"It reminds me of the color of the sky when the sun sets over the horizon of the Saharan desert, the last waves of heat lingering over the savanna before the plains are enshrouded in total darkness under the blanket of glittering stars above." Suggested by =simonsaz3.


Aug 18 -- Faux cupcakes by =Chihuahua-Yip (Sculpture & Glass)

None of this is edible because it is a delectable feast meant only for the eyes, one that will surely make you smile!


Aug 19 -- Corset pony for Darkhorse by *Woosie (Custom Dolls)

The suggester wrote, "I've never seen such an adorable horsie! Fetish ftw!" Suggested by `ctJemm.


Aug 20 -- Stygian Bracers by ~RexsLeatherwork (Leatherwork)

The suggester wrote, "Hours of sweat, curses, cutting, and loud hammering lead to the creation of the Stygian Bracers. It was amazing to watch all of the work come together to become literally a piece of wearable art. Rex says it's work that he enjoys, but I'm led to believe that it's more than enjoyment, it's the love of leather crafting." Suggested by ~oneoftheabove.


Aug 21 -- Skull Knight - Berserk by ~negativedreamer (Costumes)

The suggester wrote about this Skull Knight in his skeletal armor from Berserk, "One look at this costume is awe-inspiring. The sculptural aspects of the armor and helmet are incredibly well done. It's easy to admire a person who goes the distance to make a suit of full armor with a helmet, especially when the design is as intricate as this one is." Suggested by *icequeenserenity.


Aug 22 -- Number 1 by ~pmpropmiester (Sculpture & Glass)

A very fluid and ethereal artwork that functions as a light, about 3-3 1/2 feet long by about 2-2 1/2 ft from top to bottom, made of paper and a reed framework.


Aug 23 -- purple poppy necklace by ~Meeellla (Jewelry)

~Meeellla is an accomplished polymer clay artist who has written tutorials and a video on how to work with the Lumina® brand of polymer clay. This purple poppy necklace is a durable, but also flexible necklace, and the leaves look lifelike because impressions were made into the clay with sturdily veined real leaves. She kneaded acrylic paints into the clay to get the vivid and enchanting colors seen here.


Aug 24 -- Ricky and his snack by *mealymonsterland (Custom Dolls)

The suggester said, "It's kind of like Where the Wild Things Are meets Tim Burton splashed with color. Great expression and a great blend of scary mixed with cute! Just the kind of doll adults can enjoy along with kids. The little cat was an excellent touch. " Suggested by =pronouncedyou.


Aug 25 -- Jewels Mysterious lady by *LadySybile (Jewelry)

Known for her enchanting and distinctive painting style and choice of colors, here is a sample of her miniature work done on a pendant taken from her acrylic painting on canvas of The Mysterious Lady. There are several other miniatures in her gallery, both in jewelry form and on fans, and as the suggester said, "One of the wonderful pieces of this amazing artist... just take a look in the rest of her gallery!" Aug 26 -- copper rose by ~knivesandroses (Metal Work)

The suggester wrote, "I was speechless when I saw this, the intricate detail and effort put into this is just amazing. If you like this, be sure to check out the rest of this deviant's gallery. They truly have a gift for metal work." Suggested by =ImaRawkStar.


Aug 27 -- The Loss of Dreams by ~Glasmagie (Sculpture & Glass)

So much glorious detail and color are lost in the thumb, so it really is a must to see this one in fullview, you will be richly rewarded for it! The suggester wrote, "An incredible glass composition with subtle colors. The form and detail of the birds are superb, while the color echos the rock base." Suggested by *cl2007 and *Athalour.


Aug 28 -- Corset Cake by ~DarkMindsEye (Culinary Arts)

Absolutely must be seen in fullview because as the suggester said, "When I saw it, I only wanted to say: 'wow! Nice Corset! I want something like this,' then I was: 'omg! This is a cake!!'" Suggested by =Docali.


Aug 29 -- Team Fortress 2 dolls by ~JNorad (Custom Dolls)

The suggester wrote, "It is clear that a lot of effort was put into transforming generic dolls into the Team Fortress 2 cast, and the end result is fabulously accurate." Modded by sculpting with Sculpey and painting with acrylics, about 4 months of work for the entire set. Suggested by ~pdonkeh.


Aug 30 -- Ring of Fire Lamp by ~Figureheadglass (Sculpture & Glass)

A stunning stained glass lamp, sinuous in line and in bold, fiery colors made by an artist who has taught copper foil technique, leaded panels, traditional glass painting, fusing, and slumping, and who has studied fritography, a form of pate de verre that uses crushed glass pieces called "frits."


Aug 31 -- head to toe by ~JulianMoore (Costumes)

The suggester wrote, "Julian spent much time with all the fine details, right down to every last bead and fine stitching. Her attention to accuracy that shows real dedication to the costume and the character is reflected not only here, but also in many of her other costumes as well." Suggested by =slifertheskydragon.
