A little competition just for fun and features, to run alongside the 'losers' compOne photographic technique, probably frowned on by
the purists is the
lens reversal macro technique.
This is when you take the lens off your SLR or DSLR and turn it around, hold it to the camera, and shoot.
Now, before I go on I would just like to say that if anyone wants to join in this competition, please be aware that camera equipment is both delicate and expensive, and any techniques used that go against normal working practice, should be carried out with the utmost care, or not at all.Lens reversal is fun and can be addictive, but it can also produce excellent results, and in my opinion, can improve your knowledge and understanding of camera operations and also improve your technique in general.
here's what you do, and some examplesRemove the lens from your camera. This will disable most of the functions, and force you to set and re set some of the settings manually until you produce the results you find most pleasing.
Turn the lens around and carefully hold against the body of the camera. You will notice by looking through the viewfinder that you can move in on your subject incredibly closely to produce extreme macro result. You will also notice that you have zero depth of field, and any movement will make the image fly in and out of focus alarmingly. It helps to steady the body and lens on a solid surface, and move the subject.... But it ain't half the fun.
I shot 'Boris the Spider' hand held. It took about 20 shots, and was frustratingly entertaining.I have included some examples that I shot yesterday. As you can see, the results can be dramatic.
If you would like to join in, just for fun, please note me with up to three shots you have taken using this technique (Please be honest, and don't just post a macro.) I will keep this open until next Saturday, September 26th, then we will vote on a winner. (Please add the word 'lens' to your entry to avoid getting mixed up with 'losers' entries.)
It would be nice if the top three could be featured in all entrants journals. That would be a nice little prize, and would produce mucho Kudos!
Some examples of 'lens reversal', but remember.......please do not try this if you have any reservations about using your equipment contrary to its proper operating instructions. If you decide to try this technique, please be very, very careful!!!
Devious Comments
I've made many shots with the reverse lense, so it would have been easy to join. I hope that next time I can join.
