Contest Summary

On August, 21st, 2009 a wonderful woman passed away from lung cancer. None of you knew her, it affected none of your lives...up until 2007 it didn't affect my life to know that there was a fatal disease out there that could take somebody I cared about either. Other people got cancer, other families had to pay expensive treatments and deal with loss. It didn't cross my mind at all...until that one day that changed everything for me, my family, my extended family and friends.


Her motto up until the last two weeks of her life was, in essence, "F*ck cancer. It won't bring me down." Incredibly inspirational, fighting the whole way, the sickness did NOT bring her down, and it did not lessen her love for nature, art and just being alive. And hence, the idea for this contest was born.


When somebody close to you passes on, there is never enough time to say goodbye. In this case, I can do something as one final salute to a wonderful person who loved art, as well as show her surviving husband that people from all over the world can come together to make little miracles showing that they can feel compassion even if they do not know the person in question.



Along with =KSPhotographic and the staff at *ProjectComment, we would like to give to the community a chance to rally together and create something beautiful as a tribute to everybody who has cancer, has lost somebody to cancer, who is battling it and who has survived, as well as hopefully crusading in our own small way for awareness of the disease.


The Theme

The theme of the contest is cancer. There are many, many different types of cancer and all of them are viable. Cancer awareness, a cancer survivor, a shot down the hallway of a hospital, a gif, a video, a poem, a photograph, a stuffed animal...It is up to you to interpret how it makes you feel. You do not have to make an obvious entry of a pink ribbon or a yellow ribbon, you can bring to life your idea any way you choose.
Considering the contest is about cancer, please adhere to the theme.
If you do not understand the theme, or any of the below rules and requirements, please note me or =KSPhotographic before entering your submission to save yourself any headaches.

In essence, show us what represents cancer, what cancer means to you.


All types of cancer are included in the theme. It is not specifically for one type.



Rules and Requirements to Enter

Start Date: October 13th, 2009
End Date: December 5th, 2009

The winners will be announced on December 15th, 2009, and the prizes will be like an early Christmas present, so to speak.

All genres of art will be allowed. Yes, that includes literature.
All entries must be submitted after October 13th, 2009 to your account. I want to see some actual effort, I don't just want this to be another contest to enter because you saw it.
If you are using stock photography in your manipulation for the contest you must link back to the list of stock used. NO COPYWRITTEN MATERIAL ALLOWED.
A maximum of one entry per deviant will be accepted. You can change your mind and we can change what you choose to put in at any time, but it can not exceed one.
You must put in your author's comments a link back to the news article or one of the various journal entries from either =pullingcandy, =KSPhotographic or *ProjectComment and state what contest it is for. It helps to promote, and helps the judges keep track of who has entered!
The entry must only be in this contest, and not numerous ones, please.
No graphic nudity, sexual themes, or violence will be accepted. Submissions depicting breast cancer, etc, will be accepted, as they are relevant to the theme.

^Hanratty-Stock has been so kind as to offer her sevices to the contest as a judge. There will be a specific prize box set for stock photography entered into the contest, as we believe that stock is art, it is just as valid as any other kind of submission!

We are looking for more prize donations, anything at all. No prize is too small. We would like to try to make this as big as we possibly can, for not only is it for fun, it is also a type of closure.
