Interested in meeting other artists and interacting with their characters? We've recently begun a brand new OCT (Original Character Tournament) and are looking for participants and any help you might be willing to offer. We are accepting entries NOW and will give an official deadline (most likely some time around January) for references and and auditions/introductions in the near future. Here are the rules and guidlines: If you have any questions (as many people have) feel free to ask us and we'll answer you as soon as possible!

Onion Cupcakes OCT (Soon to be named)

Basic Plot: The world has been hit with an epidemic—artists and writers are losing their creativity. Stories and pictures have become repetitive and dull, pictures are bland and people are losing interest. Now, many artists and writers are desperate and are willing to do anything to get their creativity back. There was a place that was not hit by this epidemic, however. A very large mansion with an odd rumor surrounding it; if an artist enters the mansion; their characters are brought to life in front of them. The four girls in charge of the mansion got wind of the epidemic and decided that they’d do something to stop it. They brought a handful of some of the best and most eager artists and writers around and drew them to the mansion with the promise of a prize—the return of their creativity. As they arrive, their creativity returns and they’re shown to their rooms. When they awake, they find themselves face to face with two (or one if you so choose) of their characters, and the groups or pairs are escorted downstairs into a formal meeting area. According to the owners of the mansion, they artists are not allowed to leave until they’ve completed a scavenger hunt of sorts. They have to wander the four different wings of the mansion and find various objects (and people) for the characters belonging to the owners of the mansion. There is, however, a catch. They can’t simply retrieve the person or item. They must do it in the most creative and unconventional way possible, they have a number of obstacles in their way, and the reign to do almost anything they need. Whoever is the most creative will move on to the next round. The loser of each round is thrown somewhere in the dungeon until the tournament is over, and the mansion will take their creativity away and replace it with a severe case of artist’s block. The winner will keep their creativity and start a new wave of ideas, but the losers might lose their chance to work with their characters ever again…


Guidelines

• You are allowed up to two OCs, and they are allowed to help you retrieve the person(s) or item(s) required.
• Creativity is a MUST.
• Your OCs can be human, magical, mystical, scientifical, anything you want. Use your weirdest ones. The ones that are most likely to make the judges and the other participants laugh and smile or raise their eyebrows.
• No killing our OCs, us (please ), the artists or the artist’s OCs. You can hurt them if you so desire, but don’t make it too gory, etc.
• Be ORIGINAL. Don’t copy another artist’s work or idea, come up with your own! This is a contest about creativity! Try to OUT DO your opponent, not copy them.
• You and one other person will be assigned to find the same person/thing. In your comic/animation/etc, you can have a confrontation with the artist you’re up against or one of our characters, and sometimes they will be required. Just make sure you follow the guidelines.
• Make sure it’s your BEST WORK. We’ll give you plenty of time to get your work done, so show us what you’ve got!
• Do your best to make deadlines. If you can’t, we’ll try to give you an extension, but don’t expect it over and over again.
• Um, no god-moding, no Mary Sues, none of that. Your character is not a magical genius fairy princess with the ability to solve any puzzle, dazzle any man or win the hearts or our characters right off the bat. We love fantasy as much as the next guy, but try and be realistic. Even things out. Make it fair.
• You as the artist are not allowed any powers. You are allowed to use your characters, but you yourself can’t fly, etc, unless your character is helping you to do so. YOU. ARE. HUMAN. Your prowess is limited.
• No fan characters please. These must be your characters, not based off of some fandom. If you want to use a character that USED to be a fan character but now has their own story/powers that is fine. Otherwise, no thank you.
• Entries can be written prose, comics, or animation. You can only have one character as the artist, but if you want to work in pairs, you can collaborate. If you have further questions on this, feel free to ask~
• Reference sheets and auditions are required. We can’t promise that everyone that auditions will get in (depending on the number of entrants), but we hope everyone will get in! Ref requirements will be below.
• BE POLITE. If you lose, don’t bash us or the other artist. There’s no need to be a sore loser.
• Be friendly and have fun. That’s what this competition is all about~
• Swearing is fine, but keep it to a minimum. Don’t keep dropping the f-bomb. It’s immature and it gets old really fast.
• No nudity please. If you character is a flashy dresser, fine, but don’t over do it.
• Try and send us everything at the same time if you can, but if not, don’t worry too much about it. Just try and get it to us ASAP.
• More guidelines may be added as needed.



Reference Requirements

• Name: Obviously XD
• Nickname: Do they go by something else?
• Age: Clearly enough
• Gender: >.> These can be tricky sometimes.
• Powers: Try not to overdo it here, okay folks? We won’t hesitate to tell you to tone it down. (If it’s the artist’s profile, you can skip this section)
• Height: For comparison. Sometimes, height differences are huge.
• Personality: VITAL. The most important part of the character. How do they act? What makes them laugh? Makes them angry?
• Relationship to the other character(s): What do they think of your other character? What do they think of you?
• How did they get dragged into this situation?: Simple enough, isn’t it? XD
• Strengths: Mental, physical, etc.
• Weaknesses: NEEDED. Make them REAL. Your character can’t be all powerful.
• Species: What exactly ARE they? Did you make it up yourself or is it something we all know? (For the artist, just put human)
• Front, back and side views of your character are needed. If they have wings, piercings, tattoos, we need to see those too. If you’re a writer, then at least try to draw out you and your characters, or have someone do it for you. If you absolutely can’t, make sure your physical description is AS DETAILED AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. Also, references need to be colored.


Audition/Introduction Requirements

• Show yourself arriving at the mansion, meeting your characters, and then hearing the requirements/rules (you can kind of blur over this part). Everything else is up to you! Remember: CREATIVITY~


Rounds and the Setup

• You will be pitted against one other person (?)
• Sometimes, a confrontation with the other artist and their characters will be needed.
• Judged by creativity
• A character will ask you to retrieve something (or more than likely someone) and ask you to bring that person back to them.
• We will give you detailed information about all the characters and the wings of the mansion you’ll be looking in.
• You are required to show OUR OC giving you and your OCs the instructions, and then going to retrieve said object/person.
• You may have to travel to another wing and back in order to find who or what you’re looking for
• We’ll throw in an obstacle (one of our characters, possibly the one you’re going to get… ) that you must overcome, and you must show us how you’d do it before moving on. It could be passing through a cave of reject vampires, carrying a bad tempered angel or having a guide that is mute and only understands Japanese. It depends on our mood.
• In the future, alliances will be allowed.
• While going to retrieve said object/person, there will be obstacles and certain things you must include in your comic/animation/story, and the more creatively you incorporate/overcome them using your characters, the higher you will score.
• We will throw in random requirements (a character is bitten, has a shoe thrown at them, glomped, has to hop on one leg, etc) and you must comply with them. Show us what happens and why!
• Don’t always look at an obstacle as an obstacle. Our characters can be bribed, bought and used to your advantage, and we’ll tell you how. You just have to figure out how to use it.
• Try and incorporate as much personality of our characters and your opponent’s characters in your work. It’ll give you bonus points.
