A Special Collection of photographs i found this month that still haunts my mind. Show them some love There are always some i can`t include due to space, i try to make the features under 50 deviations to give them better exposure
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
Wayne Ford writes a column on the Black Star Rising Photography Blog (one of the best professional photography business blogs there is) about the problems with online portfolios from an advertising director/creative directors point of view.
haha it was good! I responded to his blog, and to save myself effort, I'm just going to paste my thoughts again here ...
Not being a professional photographer I can't add any authority to this, but from a screen design prospective I can add that many people on the multimedia industry are airing similar gripes.
Unfortunately it seems quality in design and quality of content are often assumed to be the same thing. (If you fail to understand the difference, go spend some time on myspace)
We (and I include the reader here also, not just the web designers) all encounter site after useless site that, while very expressive, highly imaginative and creative and quite technically astounding, are also: highly difficult to navigate to important data efficiently, have layouts that while impressive detracts severely from the product (something I imagine that would be all to easy for photography) or, in the truly drastic cases, are entirely and completely irrelevant.
And I don't think it is to much to ask to have it all. I'm sure Ford would be perfectly pleased to face a fancy overdone site, if it had say, a small but easily found link to a simple (but of course stylistically consistent) Professional portfolio. I've already stated that I'm no photography expert, but surely in fine photography also, the ability to express an idea must go hand in hand with technical skill?
Art may be a matter of taste, but a website is a matter of communication, and communication should always be as clear and concise as it is eloquent.
By all means express yourself, but for your own sake do it clearly.

your comment is a nice addition to Ford's post. I just opened a DA portfolio and the reactions were positive, its fast and easy to navigate.
Additionally, I think I might have too much content, it's difficult to find the right amount of pictures per gallery in my opinion. I think people would want to haste through an online portfolio, while on a print portfolio they would take their time.. what do you think?
A very good article, I must say Simplicity over Edginess seems to be the way to go!

DeviantART is counting down to its 100 millionth deviation! Join in on the fun and take a look back at some of the most noteworthy deviations we've seen along the way. The deviant who uploads the 100 millionth deviation could win a special prize, too. Hurry, we're going to hit the 100 million mark soon!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
