Proxomitron

~stealthcow:iconstealthcow: reports, May 8, 2003
Proximitron is a skinable solution to browser spam and all things annoying on webpages. It addition it is free for use and download. More powerful than any other anti spam apps on the net and no-one knows about it!

If, like me, you are sick and tired of adverts floating around the screen, appearing at the top and bottom of every page, sick and tired of "you cant right mouse click" or obstructed links so you cant see where you're going, tired of popup menus, tired of geocities branding ...... i could go on and on

The Proxomitron is a small local proxy (all that means is that when you visit a webpage, it gets put through the proximitron, which then works its magic, and outputs the page to you, you dont notice anything different) that lets you customise how you would like to view the internet, if you want to see popup ads you can change the settings to do so.

Another bonus of this software (and why its relevant to deviantart) is that it is skinable! So lets get the internet back to its roots, ad free and enjoyable, and at the same time spruce up the proximitron!

I love this program. It lets you do more than kill popups and ads. I've actually been able to take all the stuff out of devart that i dont like to see. For instance the top ad banner, but not just the graphic...the entire block of html. Now whenever i load a devart page at the very top is the login stats bar with the search box. I also killed the footer. The page stops kind of abruptly, but its ok with me.

I bet if I felt like it i could go through and change the devart colors from green to blue. But that would take some time.

I've uploaded a screenshot of what I did with proximotron. If you'd like to see its at this [link]

I've been using this app for about 6 months now ... it kicks ass =) (Smile) . Works a lot better than all of the other pop-up programs, plus most ad banners.
